Hiya Brizzle and C-R and bless you for checking in on me. It has been a truly awful 10-ish days. If ever there was a poster story to highlight the need for an emergency fund, this would be it.
Right, where to start.
The vehicle was towed to a garage in France. I hired a car and drove to France to pick up hubby - cost to tow/store car was over 200 euros while the cost to hire a vehicle, euro tunnel, petrol etc was around £300. Vehicle had to be collected and transported back to Dover (where it remains) and we had to be there for that. Cost of another hire car and trip was about £200, cost for car to be repatriated, £800.
Needless to say, we can't pay our rent. All of these costs don't include repairing the vehicle! We still don't have a full estimate on that.
Hubby was on his way to pick up his son. Ex wife has used the incident to destroy what remained of his relationship with his child and doesn't seem to grasp that we couldn't get there (or back!) and that we would not be able to even feed him if he were here. Never been so frustrated in our lives.
So things are not ducky here right now.
Have been selling furniture on Ebay to try to fund the rent. Won't need it anyway once we move but it's a hard pill to swallow. No idea when the money will be in from the ring sale but likely not before the end of April.Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Oh Hok...I'm so sorry that things are so tough for you right now....I know it's hard but try to keep the faith...you WILL get through this....
You know what to do - Ebay lots, sell lots, you know how to raise the Funds as we have all seen over the last several months...you CAN do this and you WILL survive!!
Please don't give up....and do come back and let us know how you're getting on....0 -
Ah bless you, DH. Giving up isn't an option so I will be plodding along the best I can. Funnily enough, hubby asked me to reopen the cc or to get a loan and I point blank refused. I told him that our problems stemmed from credit and I was damned if I was going to take on anymore! I figure if I don't have that as a solution, I will be forced to find a different one. So far, we have generated a few hundred pounds but it won't come close to paying the rent and certainly not the repair bill which will be at least £1k and probably more. We may be scrapping a 3 year old vehicle at this rate.
Still, what can I do? I can only make the best possible decisions against the hand I am dealt. So, I'm just getting on with it as well as I can.Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
You are such a strong person....you really WILL get through this....
As you say, you just have to find a solution....and you will.
Would it be the best thing to just scrap the Car and buy a cheap knock-around that will do for now?
I'm not sure what to suggest about the Rent....why not try talking to the Landlord and see if you can split this month's Rent over a few months? I'm sure they would prefer that than not get it at all....
Please don't stop posting....we are all with you....willing you to carry on and we all know you can fight this run of bad luck....You'll get back soon enough to that Debt Busting and a WONDERFUL Life....0 -
hey hok3y - i'm so sorry to hear how the last few days have been - if anyone can make up the money you can! Your strength not to use the credit card now you've paid it off is brilliant but please make sure you have enough money for your essentials - food and council tax etc - and look after yourselves.
Thinking of you and sending you massive hugs - you are a trooper xxxxxxxDebts @ LBM (May 2013): £25,250.27 | Debt Free: May 2015 :j:j0 -
Thanks DH and C-R.
I am finding it hard to manage to be fair, although I am sure I can pull in additional funds. It would be helpful to have an idea as to how much the car will cost to repair but there is still no word on that. While that is a good thing as far as I don't have to pay until they come back to me, it's a bad thing because it makes me think there is more wrong with it than first thought. I don't know - we shall see.
I have sat and played with the numbers this morning. I think we can pay the rent and up to about £950 for the car repairs with the current expected income from our salaries. It will make for a very tight April. If the car costs considerably more than £950, then we're up the creek without a paddle unless some more items sell on Ebay.
Hubby is planning on handing in his notice at the end of March and will be on a plane one way to the US as of the beginning of May. And so the fun begins.........Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
