Hi Alex, well if we were to sell the property in the US we would need a mortgage for around £150k to buy a small terraced house here. This would be the best that we could manage and it would be a push to get the banks to agree with our current salaries and ages. To live the way we want to live here, would require considerably more cash and we are not earning enough - not by a long shot. If we go to the States and sell the house, we will need about another $100k to be able to buy around a 2,000sqft home and I am fairly sure I can come up with a chunk of this before we even head over there. If we go there, live rent/mortgage free for a couple of years and save our backsides off, we should be able to sell up and buy our dream home in about 24 months, possibly without any mortgage at all. It doesn't matter how I look at it, it makes more sense.
I have a fair chunk of change coming my way in the next few months so I just need to get as much of it stowed away as is possible. Once our car is paid off, the savings will really take off. Between my ring, a pending compensation claim, and some additional big ticket items that I might be able to offload, we could have an additional £25k to play with.
Meanwhile, hubby is all stressed out and unhappy this evening! If I had the personal strength to deal with this right now, it wouldn't be so bad! It seems that everything I say and do is destined to be taken the wrong way. So I think it's time to go a little insular!

Aaaaaahhhhhh, the weekend! Oh how I love a bit of down time! It has been a really busy week in the office and a bit of an exciting week on the financial front. My mind is completely taken up with thoughts of the future, and plans for us financially. Ebay is continuing to send additional pennies our way which we do desperately need as the next week is set to be an expensive one.
On the upside, I was able to pay a nice chunk off the car loan today seeing as I no longer had to channel any money from my end of the month payout to the cc. It feels so good to see it drop and to know that the end is in sight. So exciting!
It is also amazing to realize that we now have more value in savings and assets than we have in debt. For the first time in a long time, we have genuine reason to hope in the future.
Hope everyone else is doing well and kicking some debt where it hurts!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Just when you think things are looking up.......
Mr HOK3Y set off yesterday to pick up his son from the Netherlands. I got a phone call this morning at 6am to say he is broken down in Belgium. It sounds like the transmission has gone.......on a 3 year old vehicle.......in Belgium! I can barely believe it. I am currently scrambling to help him but am thinking this may take up every penny we have and then some - which makes me fearful that I won't be paying our rent next week.
Talk about a kick in the teeth! That'll teach me for relaxing and feeling we were on better ground! The universe certainly has a way of reminding you that it remains in control no matter how much you think you have it licked!Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Ugh. I was just popping in to see how you were and read that...Bollix. That is carp. Hopefully it won't be as bad as you think but doesn't sounds a quick job at the weekend. Ouch.
Do you have EU breakdown cover? Can't they ship it home? It's one of the reasons we have our bank account actually, free cover.
