Aw thank you for all the well wishes!
I am really, truly thilled to bits. I can only imagine what it will feel like to be totally debt free but this is a good mid-point to give me a taster - and now I can channel all the available pennies to the car loan and get rid of it quicker.
Very happy to see the end of the working week and be staring down 2 days of peace and quiet. Hope everyone else will be enjoying the weekend.Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -

Hiya brizzle and thank you! I am really pleased with how far we have come. It's not been easy but it has definitely been worth it! Still pushing as we still have quite a way to go but we will get there - oh yes we will!
It has been a lovely day so far - very quiet, peaceful, and full of studying for me. But I have really enjoyed it and have a new found interest in the study of identity - very, VERY interesting stuff. Sat here and soaked it all up along with about 8 mugs of tea and a couple of bacon sarnies!I love days like this when Mr HOK3Y is working and I have nowhere that I need to be. Does the heart good!
Hope everyone else is having a lovely weekend also.Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -

First time I've been in here, but well done you on clearing the CC. We used to have tons of debt on them and Ok, we still have one, but it gets used for specific things and is cleared every month. Good riddance and well done you!!DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

Hi brizzle and others! Sorry for not being around much - have had a rather rough few days with the ex and my children. I've not been the best of company to be fair and am just trying to crawl back out of the bottomless pit I found myself inhabiting.
Mr HOK3Y and I have had some long talks and have come to the conclusion that it is high likely to prove impossible to remain in this country and have any kind of life in the remaining time we have on the planet. Two divorces in which our exes took us to the cleaners have finally taken their toll. We have decided that we will give it until Christmas to turn around but in the meantime will start taking steps to relocate to the States. Neither of us want to leave here but between property prices and the lack of suitable employment opportunities, it is sheer insanity to try to remain.
On the flip side, Mr HOK3Y's father told us that he has put his house in hubby's name and that it is ours when we move....... Utterly gobsmacked by this. Yesterday we started the day feeling like paupers who just keep getting kicked. By the end of the day, we became homeowners without a mortgage! Adding £60k to our savings as a lowball estimate on the house's value - just amazes me how much cheaper the real estate is in general across the Atlantic. 3 bed, 2 bath home on 1.5 acres of land.......try finding that here for £60k!
So I am feeling a little up and down at the moment. I don't really want to leave Yorkshire. My heart has always felt that it belongs here. But it is an insane financial burden to try to live here after what we have been through and continue to be put through. The thought of having somewhere to live without rent/mortgage is immensely appealing. If we were to sell it, it would likely mean nothing more than a deposit for a massive mortgage here on a home half the size. With jobs that don't support us properly financially given how expensive everything is here. Where we would move in the States, the cost of living is much lower and there would be some great opportunities for us. Taxes are lower, VAT is 6%, we would need medical insurance but would be able to afford it without a mortgage or rent payment.
And yet I am resisting because I always just wanted to come home. It's a sad state of affairs when you can't afford to live in your home country. Pretty sad about the whole thing but I've got an inkling I will end up on the other side of the Atlantic regardless.Credit Card Freedom gained 14 Feb 2014!!Total Debt Freedom gained 29 Apr 2014!!Savings goal 30/9/23: £72,000/£538,001.....yes I'm serious!Total Debt August 2013: [STRIKE]$21,587[/STRIKE] April 2014: $0!!!!:j0 -
Hey HOK3Y!!
welcome back - I missed you and your eternal positivity but goodness - keep your chin up - what a rough few days you must have had
It sounds like you and Mr H have been doing a lot of soul-searching. I am a big big advocate of doing what is best for you and for a good life rather than pushing yourself to an early grave but not feeling fulfilled on a spiritual level (says the one who slaves away in central London)! but trust me, as soon as we're debt free we're making a break for it and running to the rural recluse we crave - going down to four-days or part time each and just enjoying our time on this earth!!
I will miss you if you go back over the atlantic - hopefully you will stay on MSE?
What would be your timeline? Post-debt freedom?
I know you and Mr H will make the best decision for yourselves - stay strong and ride the wave of change!
Big big hugs xxxxxx
