I'm a pensioner with a Nexus4, you may need a grandchild to set it up for aged parent.That gum you like is coming back in style.0

To be honest - for simplicity - you might be better off with one of the Windows Phones.
The interface is much simpler than Android, and just 'works', without the need for too much app. customisation. My Dad is a little bit younger than your Mum - he's quite switched on - but I wouldn't dream of giving him an Android phone. I'd be forever 'fixing' it!0 -

Never having used an Android phone before I have no knowledge of them. Might this phone be suitable for an elderly (well, 70+) woman who's onl;y ever used a Nokia Brick until now. Really want to get her a new phone for Christmas and whilst I'd like her to have some new features, like email and a decent camera, I don't want to scare her. She has an iPad, if that's at all indicative.
its a good phone and TBH you could configure an app page with just the things she/you needs
however having an Ipad(and this hurts) I would say an iphone would be easier0 -
I did think about an iPhone as well. Without meaning to sound like a skinflint it was only the price that put me off. But it would make more sense, as my mum would then have a phone that runs in a similar way to her iPad, plus any photos she took on her iPhone would appear on her iPad through Photostream. Hm...Hey you gender nectar;

Try the Water live wallpaper. Very cool,
Do you like the sparkly back?
BTW The Android photography book by Colby Brown was available as a free download a while ago, don't know if it still is.
Also you can use the volume up / down keys as a camera shutter release, not a lot of people know that!That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I'll have a look at the live wallpaper.
The sparkly back is really nice, it has a hologram look to it. I'll be putting it in a case though lol0 -
I went with the "Bubbles" live wallpaper0
