probably not - it may even speed up healing. if its dried up again and there is no redness or 'weepiness' or inflammation - its healing fine!

It looks fine this morning. The only redness was from the bit of blood which he'd normally lick off but I can't take a chance of him getting to it again.

The vet said the maximum cone collar period was 10 days which is the day after tomorrow.

I don't know whether I'd better take him to the vet's surgery just to check the wound over and make sure it's ok to take the collar off from Wednesday, or just take a chance and leave it off.

by now ordinary stitches would have come out anyway and the collar not needed. so if you want to leave it off it should be ok.

Bit worried though in case he licks it again and starts the bleeding off.

I've had a good look at it and the incision area is only about an inch long and looks dry and healed, but obviously can't be for it to bleed so easily after just a bit of licking.

The scabbed area at the end of it would be itchy and he'd definitely have a go at that I'm sure.

I can tell it's driving him mad now because he's following me round everywhere and staring at me, willing me to get rid of the damn thing:(

Took him to the vet to have the wound checked as the collar's due to come off today and I wanted to make sure as he'd licked the wound.

The vet said it looks fine but if there's any excessive licking, bring him back and they will give him another antibiotic injection.

I took the collar off him this morning and he settled down for a kip with a massive sigh of relief:)

I'm keeping an eye on him but he hasn't licked himself so far.

He loves a good lick of Lucy's nether regions...and she loves it too:D...so that was the very first thing he did when I took the collar off:)

Oh my word!! There really is no answer to that, is there? :rotfl:
(Lucy is your other dog, isn't she? :rotfl:)

Really glad he's ok and making a good recovery.

Ha ha! Yes she is...sorry I should've said that! God only knows what images that post conjured up!:)

Jack adores her and they always have a little cuddle up together.

Then Lucy lies on her back, legs akimbo, the hussy:) and Jack has a good old lick...don't know which one of them enjoys it most!

Wish I knew how to upload some pics of them

well he hasn't had a fight so far since having his bits off but probably that's coincidence as it'll be too early for any effects to show

tbh - I don't think his 'bits' being removed will in any way affect his protectiveness towards you. It certainly didn't with my female dogs! both of them remained very protective of me and the kids - but both of them thought that OH could take care of himself!!!!!!!!!!!!
