More than likely, and I did reply a bit tongue in cheek lol. Believe me I know of some MIL horrors that would make your hair curl and would make yours seem like Mother Teressa lol.
I just strive to be the best MIL I can be to my SIL, it goes without saying I am the best Mum and Grandma in the universe lol xxx

I was a great MIL to my son in law too. Did everything I could for him without ever interfering. He used to say how he hoped my daughter would be like me when she was older and was always buying me flowers.

Then a few months after he married my daughter he got another (also married) woman pregnant and left my daughter for her.

I felt nearly as betrayed as my daughter did.:(

Hard to say without looking at your DD whether your MIL has a point - as a general rule, the thicker and longer the hair, the longer you can go without a cut. If your DD has fine hair, it may well look untidy. But some people irrationally hate long hair and will tell you to lop off a perfectly healthy head of hair.

Re the dog, dogsitting is a huge undertaking, if your MIL isn't getting it right, put the dog in kennels and restrict access to whenever you're around. That way, she still gets to play with the dog, but doesn't have any influence over eating/sleeping patterns etc.

Your DD, your dog - let your MIL see both, but raise them as you see fit.

If it were me I would explain to MIL that the breed is known to get allergies and would make sure we dropped off enough of the Arden Hill stuff.

If I had a daughter who wanted long hair I would show her how to look after it, so that she could at least comb/brush it without involving her grandmother. MIL may be thinking about granddaughter getting nits at school. Or else yes she might just be a grumbleguts in which case stick to your guns as diplomatically as poss.

she looks after your dog and your child and your moaning?

the last time anyone babysat for me was while I was in labour and even then its never been over night. my poor pooch has never slept out either.

she may have no other common ground to talk with you about, and having a dig at someone its always refreshing I think your very lucky :p

I do like my MIL; we get on good. The things she says I.e. my daughters hair being cut isn't being said because it needs it cut. Like I said before she can't manage it when she has her on rare occasions; I'm not lopping my daughters hair off to suit my MIL so she can manage it once in a blue moon.

The dog; comments taken on board and spoken to OH and have said the dog doesn't stay there without us anymore and kennels when we go away. Obviously she doesn't mistreat the dog but as an older person she think she knows best and gets tetchy with us if we don't agree with her thinking we are just saying stuff for the sake of it. So kennels next time is the easiest option all all round.
