Won't be free if the dog ever has to go to the vets though will it? But thanks for your 'advice'.

Oh for goodness sake if she's that bad why do you allow her to have the dog?

??? If you don't like my post then ignore it. No point getting your knickers in a twist over it. Like I said; it was a rant.

Lamb is seriously not the food to be feeding a shihtzu; it makes them very ill. If I ask her not to feed it lamb then I expect her not to do so; not question my reasoning behind it. They offered to look after the dog, we didn't ask, and advised what she can and can't eat. I don't then expect my dog to then still be fed food that will make her ill. Will they pick up the vet bill if they make her ill?

Why is a lamb particularly an issue for shihtzus?
  • Why is a lamb particularly an issue for shihtzus?

It can cause allergies plus their digestive system can't process it very well; they normally vomit it back up the way it goes down. Had a shihtzu a couple of years ago and learnt the hard way.
  • I really do feel your pain on the dog front, my mum does similar whenever she's around our dog. That said, if it is such a problem that you're worried about your dog becoming ill, you need to find someone else to take care of the dog. If they enjoy having her around & it'll cause friction to send her to a walker, you can always ask them to have her once a week or something but if you're genuinely worried about them giving her lamb, find a dog walker/kennels instead.

If that's not practical, do you currently leave food for her or do they buy her food for when she's there? If they're giving her food, it might be a good idea to get some food just for their house & leave it there with a comment of 'She's been given this food by the vets and can only have this! Vets orders!'. No harm in a little white lie if it'll save your dog some intestinal discomfort and stop your MIL from interfering :p

Schi Tzu's are prone to allergies and stomach sensitivities and it may be eating soil becuase of a nutritional deficiency.
A consultation with a vet on the best diet for your dog will enable it to grow healthily.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

Thanks. We leave food and a treat tin with them and enough to see her through. They had her and DD last week as we were decorating so its not a regular thing. Maybe they spoil her when they do have her which I can understand. She's had ice cream, strawberries, bananas and other things I can't remember in that week on top of chicken, her own food etc. This week the dog won't leave us alone when we are eating anything. Arrggghh. Maybe I just will have to kennel her next time and suck up all the questions as to why we aren't leaving her with MIL.

Thanks. Yes going to get her booked in as she us on Arden grange which claim to have no rubbish in it but she does still go for the soil at theirs. Hoping its soil and not cat poo (lots of cats around there) as she also had a tendency to eat her own but she's kinda grown out of that now.

I have a friend with a son a few months older than my DS. Her in laws were very 'involved' in their life; her MIL used to have her Grandson at hers.

He was once brough home having had a haircut:eek: - Grandma HADN'T EVEN ASKED/OFFERED TO DO IT but just gone ahead and cut it.

That's interesting as lamb is considered such a very low allergen food. I know there are some incidences, but its interesting it occurs so dramatically in a particular breed.
