Your human rights are listed here. Please tell us where you think putting up a satellite is covered.

Yes lets watch Eygptian TV its my human right to watch human rights being violated.:rotfl:

Oh look the woman are chastised for not wearing Islamic dress and they set fire to Churches.

Quite a few HRs that are being ignored "Why in Gods name do you want to watch that output?"

Now you see why people here and elsewhere take the stance that they do
Stop! Think. Read the small print. Trust nothing and assume that it is your responsibility. That way it rarely goes wrong.

  • I'm sat here wondering exactly what the OP has done to deserve all this vitriol from posters?

So it's not a human rights issue - fair enough. Time for the comments to move on?

When I worked in New York for 3 months, I occasionally enjoyed catching up with Eastenders on one of the satellite stations I had available at the time (that was part of my 'culture' too). Fortunately, nobody in New York told me to 'get out of their country' as a result. Maybe I was just lucky...
  • Contact your local authority again. I know in some LA's when they install communal Freesat residents can opt in to receive Hotbird and pay for the additional channels by subscription themselves. If your LA is anything like mine all his would have been decided at the consultation phase before the individual satellite-dishes were removed if enough residents signified that they wanted it.

I'm not a racist person...but think more and more of UK are getting fed up by being treated like 2nd class citzens because all foreigners have to do is say 'its my human rights' or 'thats racist' and they get their way.

Saying it's their human right to have a satalite dish is just using the fact they are foreign to get what they want despite others not being able to do the same.

Its not right on so many levels, yet contact the right people they will most likey get their own satalite dish as people don't want to get sued. God help if anyone else tried to though who wasn't they would just have door slammed in their face.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

Agreed. The replies are along the lines of the xenophobic tripe pumped out by the Daily Mail. The OP just wants to watch entertainment in their language/culture, it's not really an issue for the BNP supporters to get their drums out about :p

It's not entirely a human rights issue, but for example it would be IF it was a council block and a good proportion of the residents were of a group who required access to those channels, and the council unreasonably denied them permission to install a communal dish for use with that satellite.

*Anyway* on a more practical level, to the OP - is it possible to install it on a tripod on a balcony? Due to the way the LNB is offset, the dish can be quite low so long as it has a view of the satellite. It may still be "installing" a dish but if it can't be seen from the ground it might be acceptable.

Maybe "wanted access" rather than "required access"?

Human rights issues , almost certainly dont stretch to the right for a dish on a wall
Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.
  • OP, do you have a balcony? Then this might work:

I think what irritated a number of people who replied on this thread was not so much that OP wishes to view content beamed from a particular satellite, but that s/he has suggested that the human rights legislation be used to get what s/he wants.

With children being gassed in Syria (by whatever side) and goodness knows what going on in North Korea, the problem of not being able to view specialised content seems to me to be trivial. The children (and adults) in Syria have little choice, and those in North Korea less so, but OP did/does have a choice. OP could have chosen to purchase somewhere without restrictions, OP can still move, OP can contact the LA to see if a compromise can be reached. It is not xenaphobic to make these points. You only have to look at the millions spent on trying to deport Abu Qatada to see why there is frustration with some aspects of the way human rights legislation is used (or some would say abused) in this country.

If I purchased a property in a conservation area that forbids satellite dishes I would not be trying to use human rights legislation to obtain permission to have Sky etc to beam endless adverts for washing powder into my home to enhance my cultural identity.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.
