Interfaith marriages-do they work?

Have to disagree with this..
Raised by my Auntie and Uncle who were both heavily involved with the church. Uncle having conversation with us a couple of years ago was saying how far he had seen the church come along as he could now discuss in prayer groups how the whole 7 days etc was more along the lines of Christians waking up to their religion rather than a literal 7 days of creation.
Can't see how what you say disagrees with what I said.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

To any any people responding to this thread saying what others should do or will do or could do I'd only reply - I live this situation and so far the positives have far outweighed any relatively minor negatives! I am pretty qualified to assess how it feels and works.
Never rule out an interfaith/culture/race marriage as you maybe denying yourself a fulfilled life and also perhaps this is what God wants for you - perhaps you might be the catalyst for bringing God into your spouse's life!0 -

That's very true, we never know what God will have in store for us. It's been nice hearing of experiences but its a pity it started too many religious debates which I wasn't really looking for. At end of day regardless of beliefs should try to respect others beliefs. And I'm sure interfaith/inter racial (rather shocked that race came into this discussion!!!) relationships can work and very much dependent on people involved.0 -

Sometimes race and religion are hard to separate, for example, my husband is Italian, English and Jewish....even though he is not a religious Jew, culturally and racially he is Jewish.0 -

Questions of race may well be questions of culture and religion so very relevant to this discussion and in no way shocking.0 -

I do respect others' beliefs. It doesn't mean I would be able to live with them without compromising mine. It's BECAUSE I respect their beliefs that I also think they could not live with me without compromising theirs!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -

How would you be compromising your beliefs? Also is that just with a partner or friends too?0 -

Thanks. That will be why I know nothing about it as the Church of England is not one of the main churches in this country.0 -

Someone I was married to. I have plenty of friends and family members who do not share my faith.
Because my faith underpins every aspect of my life, it would be well-nigh impossible to have a meaningful marital relationship with someone who had a different worldview and outlook. We would not be pulling in the same direction. As I said further up the thread, what if they wanted to keep a kosher home and I thought that method of slaughter was barbaric? What if I wanted to celebrate Easter and they did not believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose again and it was against their religion to do this? Where would the common ground be? There would be constant conflict which would not make for a good marriage.
I agree if one or both partners are not too bothered about practising their religion then it could work, but if both are devout, then no.(AKA HRH_MUngo)
