We belong to an independent Church, in the type of church called by others New Churches, (formerly House Church) and are under the umbrella of an organisation called Global Legacy, along with many other independent churches. But the level of faith referred to is not dependent upon denomination, Torry Quine is (I think) a different denomination to me and yet feels the same on this issue.

    And this is our church

    Hope this helps

My parents are both seventh day adventists, they hate each other, the only reason they aren't divorced is because it would go against their religious beliefs.

  • I think there is an unnecessary level of vitriol directed at those people who feel marrying outside their faiths wouldn't work for them, directed by some posters (not, of course, all).

A decision over marriage, or a relationship, is such a fundamentally personal thing, as is faith, that I think it's completely wrong to condemn people in such a way.

If one of the posters who didn't want to marry a non-Christian was a big employer, making (say) T-shirts, and refused to hire an employee who wasn't Christian, I think we'd all agree that this was completely and utterly different.

But if a person feels that he would not be happy in a relationship which did not represent a unity of faith, how can they possibly "wrong"? If that's how they feel, that is how they feel.

Other people (including me) are happy in inter-faith marriages or relationships, and similarly, we're not "wrong", but neither is our way the only way.

I couldn't live happily with someone who thought that women shouldn't work if they were mothers, or that every day needed to start at 6am, or whatever. That doesn't mean early risers aren't perfectly happy and healthy in themselves, but it wouldn't work for me. (I don't intend to denigrate the importance of people's religions by this comparison, I'm just pointing out that we all have our own preferences and opinions, whether major or minor).

Culture and religion are not the same thing. Race and religion are also separate.

Culture, religion and race overlap a lot in some cases - such as in Judaism, which is a religion, a culture, and a race. Or several of them.

Thanks. That will be why I know nothing about it as the Church of England is not one of the main churches in this country.

    Which country are you in?

We were talking about CofE. The Episcopal Church may be Anglican but it is not CofE. Maybe this IS semantics, Torry, as someone said further up the thread?

Probably, but I was just trying to explain to wiogs who seems unaware of it. :o
