There are 2.6 million union members in the private sector in the UK, which I reckon is over 4% of the whole UK population including children, unemployed, public sector workers etc. statistically speaking you are likely to know a private sector union member. We’ve had to remove your signature. No I didn't. Read my post again, carefully.
You can not say union members get x y and z and not imply that non union members are getting less.
You are in a union no doubt so what do you do for a living and what do you earn and what are your benefits? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

What did you say then?

I was not referring to one workplace, rather to the workforce as a whole. It is a long established fact that employees in unionised workplaces earn more and have better benefits than in non-unionised workplaces.
You are also twice as likely to have an accident at a workplace where there isn’t a union.0 -

Yeah or burning to death in a hot industrial oven that you were sent in to clean by an employer who wasn't overly concerned with your safety at work. I LOL all the time at stories like that. Isn't a 'unionised workplace' one company though?
Tell us what yours are then and how much are you take home?
Yes, but the benefits don't only apply to union members. Free riders can be a problem for unions because everyone can be disadvantaged by a few peoples' desire to save their subs.
What I earn is irrelevant. The important thing is that I am convinced that I earn more than a comparable worker in a non-unionised workplace. I also have other benefits like flexi time which cost the employer nothing but make a massive difference to me.0
