My union receives around £175m a year from around 1.5m members.

However since unions are democratic membership organisations, the money is used to further the interests of the members, not to line the pockets of the shareholders!
Not all companies have shareholders either

I cant see how any union need £175million. What are they doing with all this money? Ah yes the union bosses with the mega salaries and big houses.

That's 9 years turnover at my old place!

Your company should have a person in charge of health and safety and these areas should be identified before you go hurt your back.

    Well of course they should.

But it doesn't hurt to have a health and safety rep to check corners are not being cut does it?

If UNISON was recognised by your employer for collective bargaining purposes you may well have received a bigger rise!

Not to mention all the other benefits of being a member e.g. Individual representation at work, sickness and accident benefit, discounts on financial services etc etc
No one at my company would be in a union or want a collective bargaining where they may lose there pay rise.

You think if someone said to my boss please get her a pay rise they will go 'ok'!! LOL

check it yourself and SPEAK UP - oh no that's right most people are in unions to hide behind them.

Ok I can give you an example: I once I injured my back at work because the stock storage area provided was not adequate. .

You know you could have said something, right?

Around 25% goes directly to branches. The rest is used to further member interests e.g. Covering legal fees, providing accident benefit, training for reps and members, lobbying, etc etc

Yes union employees earn money! Though there are many lay officers who are volunteers.

Unison's general secretary costs around £115k all in but when you consider the size of the organisation this seems fair and is much less than a public or private sector executive of a similar sized organisation would earn.

I did. A number of times. In writing.

The times I did receive a response it was along the lines of "not cost effective" or "we are working to reduce average stockholding".

and my reply would be 'I am not entering the stock room till sorted' and then report it to the council who get health and safety in to have a look at the work place under 'trips and slips' and they do a routine check saying they are looking at offices in the area :)

How do you figure that collective bargaining means you will lose a pay rise?

Not sure what you mean about saying something to your boss about getting a pay rise, sorry?
