And yet unions bore you!
No union can get you more holiday if the boss say 'get another job if you don't like it'. They paid the legal requirement 5.6 weeks.
I however was not one of the ones asking for more holiday. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

amongst other thingsI'm not sure how much "progression" or "specialism" there can be.
people tend to apply for jobs with the intention of doing that job, usually because it's something that needs doing
as i said earlier i could possibly take on other responsibilities but then i would be doing someone elses job0 -
Yes they do 100%

Actually, research shows that union members in the UK receive higher pay (on average 12.5% more), better sickness and pension benefits, more holiday and more flexible working hours than non-members.0 -

And if I had joined a union my old company would have given me 25 days holiday? Wow
I don't know anyone working in the private sector in a union - all my mates earn over £30k and none are union membersWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
if there are never pay rises at the bottom then the rich will increasingly whine and wonder why their mercs keep getting stolen
trust me, in the long run it will be be for everyone in society if wages ncreases are not just reserved for the rich0 -
I'm pretty sure that's not what I said

OP- I totally sympathise with you on this but in the real world it aint goin to turn out good.
My ex employer has made 5 team leader posts redundant and put the workload on the other 5 with a 1% pay increase. Since this happened the service has had an increase of 30% demand but directors will not agree to pay more as the salary is set nationally for the company. The reason was that the re-tender was significantly lower than what was manageable.
I left that company before the redundancy and was the head of care for a new set up. We had to fold after 6 months as the local council would not allow us to tender as we could not beat the other companies on price no matter what we did, because we only had projections and no concrete costs.
I am now working 3 zero hour jobs and no guarantee of hours but imho it is better than JSA.
Oh and btw zero hour contracts do have annual leave worked out at 12.07% of hours worked.0 -

There are 2.6 million union members in the private sector in the UK, which I reckon is over 4% of the whole UK population including children, unemployed, public sector workers etc. statistically speaking you are likely to know a private sector union member.0
