  • Had a lovely Sunday roast made by Dss1 - all the better as I didn't have to cook or clear :)

A productive day today. I cleared out the spare room, deep cleaned and now ready to fill with removal boxes. It never fails to amaze me just how much there is to do, particularly when you rent as the house has to be 'professionally' cleaned - ie me:( DH's attitude towards getting ready to move is looking in the mahoosive garage (which is his domain and saying that everything in there is needed and might come in useful one day - this includes the two rusty scooters that haven't been used for over 4 years "I can't throw them away I might need the wheels or handlebars one day" WHAT:mad: so 10 minutes spent in the garage resulted in throwing away 2 old biscuit tins and a a plastic old washing basket - both of which I suggested :( We are doing as much of the move [STRIKE] ourselves[/STRIKE] myself - which means all the boxes and small bits of furniture but the bigger stuff will have to be done by the removal company - including 6 sofas and 4 double beds amongst numerous other bits

Relaxing on the sofa right now catching up on some diaries. Should be doing my budget update but that can wait till tomorrow me thinks:) Our rule for Sundays is if you're hungry after a roast you can eat cereal for tea - so no moving off the sofa for me :rotfl:

I know I'm being dumb but how do I subscribe to a diary - can't figure it out:eek:

Enjoy the last of the weekend everyone

At the top of the diary on the bottom green bar is a heading 'Thread Tools'. Click on that and you can subscribe.

Alternatively, if you're nosey like me and want to follow every thread you post in :p. Along the top green bar click User CP. On the left click Edit Options. There is a Default Thread Subscription Mode - change to no email notification,. That means you'll be subscribed to everything you post on. When you come onto MSE Forum just click on User CP and all threads with posts since you were last on will be listed.

So you can subscribe to hundreds and waste loads of time like the rest of us :D.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Beautiful morning again - perfect for the washing to dry.

Half way through my second coffee already - no wonder I wake up so early in the morning. Came down to face a bomb site this morning - the kids idea of clearing up after dinner leaves somewhat to be desired, along with DH's muffin making debris from last night - tasty though:D

I'm really  with myself this morning as I just went to move my £1000 back out of Nationwide and realised that last month I missed my money moving date by one day - not sure how as I set my calendar to make sure I do it - we must have been away. The result of that is no £8 interest this month - not very MS of me and most unlike me :( ahh well at least it's done for this month and I must check my calendar is set right.

I have another busy day today - on top of which I have an extra 2 teenagers in the house for a sleepover for DS so lots of food consumption and mess.

    To Do List:
    • [STRIKE]chase up removal quote - really need those boxes[/STRIKE] In total shock - £1,300, that's£1,300 and just in case you didn't get that £1,300 we used them 2 years ago and it wasn't any more than £800 - we haven't bought that much furniture since. Need to get DH onto them when he gets back :eek::eek:
    • [STRIKE]on-line enrollment for DS's course - need to see if X will pay upfront so I can make some money out of it as I only need to pay monthly :)[/STRIKE] lucky that I have a good relationship with my x and his wife
    • [STRIKE]update budget accounts - should have done it yesterday[/STRIKE]only £50 left for the next 17 days food shopping - need to get veg, bread, milk, fruit and some meat with that - may need to amend my menu plan:(
    • [STRIKE]deep clean oven - Mr Mu$cle is working wonders as I write[/STRIKE] :)
    • washing - again :(postponed till tomorrow - not quite enough for a full load
    • [STRIKE]clear office of non-DH stuff that we didn't know what else to do with[/STRIKE]. It is mainly DH's domain as I have a desk on the landing so I shall only sort out what he won't miss
    • [STRIKE]£40 Mr T shop to get the first of 5 £5 off :j[/STRIKE]
    • [STRIKE][STRIKE]Take books that Amazon didn't want to charity shop[/STRIKE][/STRIKE]

I need to sit down with DH at some point this week to discuss finances - not always a pleasant conversation as he is a money ostrich but we are about to have some big costs for DSS2 coming up. He is starting a new school which requires him to catch a bus (I think he won't get on the school bus as it was already allocated when we applied) so I think its going to cost an additional £6 a day. Also, he turns 17 in two weeks so we have driving lessons and car insurance etc to find. I pay for all of DSS2's living costs, which of course I am happy to do, but these additional items I just don't have the money for and I think that his mother (who likes to pick him up in her new convertible Porsche ) should contribute at least 50%, particularly as she pays us such a pittance in maintenance (repeat to oneself 'I am not bitter, I am not bitter')

Right enough rambling time to get going :)

    Happy Days everyone

Yeah I think because the 1st was a Sunday we got paid today :)
  • PM post for me today - I've been feeling tired today. DD has come down with a nasty throat infection (just in time for school) so I wonder if I may have picked something up from her. Haven't got time to ill - too much to do. Two out of three kids back tomorrow - just hoping they have everything they need otherwise it will have to wait till the weekend.

Got two nasty shocks this morning when I logged onto my FD account to discover someone had transferred £4000 from one of my accounts (there was no money in there but it has a £4000 OD facility. Rang the bank and discovered that it was from an old joint account that I had with my x which hadn't been used for 8 years. I kept it open because they give me the OD facility for free. They were able to transfer the money back only to discover when I checked with my x that he had transferred it as he is due to move house in a couple of weeks and needed it for cash flow. It would have made life a lot easier if he had pre-warned me

The other shock was the original reason for checking my FD account. I wanted to look back to when we moved here, two year's ago to see how much we paid the removal company. Well, imagine my surprise to discover it was only £496 compared to the £1500 they quoted us this time. Talk about taking the P - we're only going 1 mile down the road  DH spoke to them and they are coming back with a revised quote. If we weren't short of time I would tell them to stick their van where the sun don't shine :(

Despite being tired I got quite a bit done today. Emptying and cleaning out the laundry room was my main achievement and also I found some old removal boxes in one of the sheds that I managed to rescue from the cobwebs and spiders, so have now packed the first five of I suspect will be 60+ boxes.

DH cancelled Sky for when we move and we have transferred to BT. We have to pay a £40 initial charge which I think we get back in S@insburys vouchers and we have chosen to pay the line rental annually which will save us around £20. The whole package is around £25 cheaper a month even after the 3 months offer expires, so happy with that.

Should be cooking but going to lie down on the bed for a while and see if the magic cooking fairy can work her magic ;)

  • Phew! Busy day - with kids going back to school and last minute purchasing of forgotten stationery and bits for DD who goes back tomorrow (along with medicine stuff to keep her throat infection at bay).

I'm ashamed to say I was a tad non MS today as with DD feeling under the weather I bought stuff in the nearest shop rather than the best buy :(

I also did something that I very rarely do which was to impulse buy some ice cream and a cold drink for the kids after school - at least I didn't at the local s@insburys rather than the petrol station.

Need to update my budget spreadsheet so I know where things stand.

I had to give DSS2 some money for lunches for school- I've had a couple of months off with the summer hols - I allocate £20 a week during term time. Now he's in 6th form he can go into the local high st to buy his lunch whereas before I used the parent pay system so I knew exactly what he was spending it on - not sure what he's up to with it now.

Had a friend pop over this morning - lovely to see her and have agood moan, as that's what good friends are for after all:) Not a massive amount achieved on the house front though I did manage to clean the extractor fan (gross) and all the work surface and tiles in the kitchen. And of course the standard ironing mountain. Failed on the £40 shop from MrT to use my £5 voucher - will need to do 2 shops tomorrow.

So all in all not brilliantly MS for me today. Oh nearly forgot sold a shirt on eb@y for £2.77 :T - must wrap and post that tomorrow.

Must get back to writing my list in the mornings as it helps me focus.
