We have a local facebay page on facebook which we have been using to sell stuff after our house move - might be an alternative to ebay? most buyers collect and we have managed to sell nearly everything we post.( also met loads of new local people and so far everybody been nice)
    mortgage 1 33,000. paid nov 2012 :D. mortgage 2 87,000 due 51,686.76 at july 2013, but then:new home and remortgage ... £101065.43:eek: now 74k
  • Thank you Kirstypark - I will definitely look into that as I have quite a few bigger items to sell.

Just back from taking my sister and new hubby home to the Midlands having picked them up from the airport. Ended up staying overnight at my mums and having a pootle around Stratford before driving back - full of tourists.

    Costs of weekend:
£52 petrol - will get 2% back as cash back
£6 - £land - surprised to see one of those in Stratford :A
    £2 - parking

    Benefits of weekend:

Got to spend time with my lovely family :j
Free Sunday roast, loads of pud and bacon sandwiches for breakfast
Unopened White co. candle stuff that mum didn't want and I can £bay, two boxes of shortbread biscuits and a box of shot glasses from my sisters wedding :T
Went to 8ookers with DBIL who has an account there and got the biggest box of chicken breasts for £10 (5kg) and he gave me a massive box of cooked chicken for free :j

Enjoying the rest of the BH with my DH s lobbing on the sofa with large bar of chocolates :D

Got soooo much to do tomorrow. Will be on first thing to draw up my list but more importantly DS and DD are coming back home after 2 weeks in Italy with their dad :j:j:j along with all their washing

Enjoy the rest of your bank holiday

Up early today again, woke at 5.15am decided after lying there for 45 minutes that I wasn't going to get back to sleep so decided to get up and start on my to do list for today.

    [STRIKE]Feed friend's cat - think she's back today[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]wrap and send off 7 Eb@y parcels - think I made around £45 (as long as I don't go over on my postage costs[/STRIKE]note to self - never list a bundle of clothes without checking weight before hand - am down £7 on postage
list the spare bed will have to wait until tomorrow - too much carp on bed to take photo:o have researched on line and checked on Dreams where I got it from so halfway there :)
[STRIKE]Go into letting agent and pay for the reference and admin fees so they can start the reference process. They want the full amount including the deposit and first months rent (£6,300:eek:) but I'm going to see if I can pay that once the references are completed as I don't see why they should be earning a months interest on my money when I could be[/STRIKE] don't need to pay until just before we move as long as funds have cleared :j
    [STRIKE][STRIKE]Update budget spread sheet [/STRIKE][/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]sign and send off cheques for the second hand uniform shop from[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]DS's school that I used to run[/STRIKE]done -found £6.50 in there for me too. Needs to go into penny pot as I owe it £40
[STRIKE]Do the filing and sort out any admin[/STRIKE] personal admin, filing & emails done - business stuff will just have to wait :(
start on the washing mountain that will no doubt appear when the kids get home
slob on the sofa with DH :)
[STRIKE]Work out how to do the bullet points on here as my first attempt hasn't worked[/STRIKE] :(thanks to GallyGirl

I really need to do some work on the business accounts which I have neglected for about two weeks now and do a 4 monthly income projection to ensure we have enough in there to pay for DH's wages and also for the mahoosive tax bill £7000 that DH wracked up in his past life and forgot to tell HMRC about  but that will have to wait for another day. I had intended to sort that out whilst the kids were away but the decision to move house kind of got in the way.

I was talking to my mum when I went up there about money (a topic that she loves). She inspires me in my quest to be a home owner again. She's always worked but never had a high paying job - spent much of her life being a secretary. Yet despite this she has always saved. She has bought 3 btl's since she was 60 (now 67) and the first two she has passed on to my two young sisters (26 and 24) having paid a 50% deposit on each. So now the girls have a foot on the property ladder and very small mortgage payments to make (I've told them that they should look to over pay their mortgages but at their age they just want to have fun -I must get them on board). She also gave my brother the money to finish paying off his mortgage - I think the money ran out before she got to me :( - she still has a couple of part time jobs now, bless her :A

The young people on here who are OPing are an inspiration -wish MS was around when I was younger - but hey better late than never.

Right - must start wrapping - coffee first ;)

Work out how to do the bullet points on here as my first attempt hasn't worked :(
Well, I'd been on here for about 3 years before I even realised they existed so well done :T.

In the line above the text box when you press Post Reply there are 2 entries - one with numbers and one with squares. So, if you want to be super organised you press the number one once then when you do a return it automatically numbers the next point:
    1. 1st thing to do
    2. 2nd thing to do
    3. 3rd thing to do
Do the same for bullets if you're like me and the thought of knowing there are 38 items on your to do list would scare you ;).

ETA - not sure if it works on iPad though .
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    • £200 - holding deposit (taken off deposit total)
    • £3600 - 6 weeks deposit (hope to get £3000 back from current house
    • £126 - referencing fee
    • £120 admin fees
    • £130 cheque in fees
    • £50 - mail forward for 6-12 months
    • £TBC - cost of removals
    • £TBC - cost of cleaning products and hiring carpet cleaner
    • £TBC - cost of 5 sets of keys to be cut
    • £695 - additional rent to be paid due to paying for an additional 4 days on current house and paying for two houses for two days

I shall offset these costs against the money saved on rent for the new house. Could be a loooongg time before I get to move that extra rental money into my savings account.

Need to get removal quote sorted - on list for tomorrow and see if I can borrow my friends carpet cleaner again - though it didn't manage to get the stains out last time - but good for general clean - think I may need to use diluted bleach (cream - ish carpet)

Also need to scout round shops to see if I can get some boxes - though they are not so easy to get hold of anymore.

Need to get off here and get on with the job at hand which is meant to be filing and admin - coffee first :rotfl:

SPECIAL THANKS TO GALLYGIRL FOR THE BULLET POINTS :T

See you didn't go for the scary numbering option though :rotfl:.

Just had 'to do' with DH:( - wish he was a bit less MSphobic. He has a terrible attitude towards money - good job he can't get his hands on mine :rotfl: He's happy for me to manage all the finances then throws it in my face when I tell him we can't afford something. Hmmm - think he's a bit depressed - he does suffer sometimes - will go easy with him though he needs to learn that there isn't a bottomless pit as far as money is concerned

managed to finish my to do list today (apart from listing bed on Eb@y)

Time to slob on sofa, hope DH will join me.

  • Ooh forgot to mention NSD for me today:j - few and far between at the moment.
Kids not back yet so haven't been able to start the washing mountain but have made up a big batch of frugal washing powder: 1 part branded powder (on offer of course), 1 part cheepo Mr T own brand and 1 part soda crystals - use 1 V@nish size pink scoop to measure it out in washing m/c minus the vanish of course - works just great. Also mix one part mr T value conditioner with branded conditioner - can't notice any difference :)
