cheapo engagement ring

I had a fab wedding this year, it was just me and my hubby and 2 witnesses that we didn't even know. It wasn't about the wedding for me it was about getting married and it was always something that I wanted to do. My OH always knew this and surprised me by asking me on holiday this year which was lovely. The only thing I really regret is having an engagement ring. It was more expensive than wedding by more that triple and I hardly ever wear it. Yes everyone does ask to see a ring and that was the only reason that I had one. Don't bother with the engagement ring is my advice it's about being married and not all the stuff that goes with it, that's expected in some peoples eyes.0

does anyone have any tips on where to get a cheap ring?
or indeed, if it would be terrible not to have one at all?
perhaps I am weird for not caring about an engagement ring whatsoever (I am the female by the way...)
the only rings I've ever had have got lost, and I haven't worn rings in over a decade
would still have wedding ring I think...
also , do men have engagement rings?
I'm not up on all of this....
its up to you (and your OH) whether you want rings or not, or one of you does, or none of you, or both of you.
I don't have an engagement ring, I have a wedding ring (which I has mislaid over the last day or so, it'll be in the house somewhere no doubt :rotfl:). My husband doesn't have a wedding ring - my Dad didn't either.
If you do decide to go for a ring - it doesn't need to be a traditional blingy number. A piece of costume jewellery you like serves the job just as well.0 -
I don't think that you can really use cost as an argument not to get married. You can do it for £125.0

Aw I love that idea - OP do that :T!0 -
My fiance both have engagement rings, which he bought on ebay for around a tenner for them both!
One day we might upgrade mine to a better one, but right now it's not important to have a diamond ring.0 -
I'd love a great big rock! Could never afford it and now got better things to do with the money.
DD's engagement ring is gorgeous and it was cubic circonia.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

I honestly didn't think i would want an engagement ring as i didn't (and still don't apart from the ring) wear any jewellery.
BUT that made the engagement ring even more 'special' in my eyes, the only piece of jewellery i wear is a commitment to my OH.
I choose a very non-traditional ring, custom made with alexandrite centre stone.
I'ts currently being resized as i only recently found out my proper size of a rather small 'G'0 -
I don't have an expensive engagement ring, well expensive as in what most engagement rings sell for.
Mine cost under £200 and I know this because we picked it out together. My wedding ring cost under £200 as well.
Hubby's wedding ring was under £100 and wasn't advertised as a wedding ring at all. He didn't like the traditional wedding rings so simply chose a ring that he liked and wanted to wear as a wedding ring.
Our wedding taking into account the prices for rings as well cost £2,500. My dress was from the Monsoon wedding range and was in the sale for £80.
Do what you want and not worry about what others think. I certainly don't/didn't when it came to getting engaged/married etc.
My sister back in Australia is getting divorced and has a white gold engagement, wedding and eternity ring. She got them valued and the most she's been quoted for all 3 together is $150 (about £86) and she knows her husband to be at the time paid over $1000 (about £570) for the engagement ring.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Nothing of import to add because the 'do what suits you' posts say it all. Though I did go a bit mushy at the lovely reasons for not having a ring or fancy wedding.
Would just like to congratulate you if congratulations are in order.0 -
Everyone around me is getting hitched and getting sucked up into the consumerist trap that is wedding planning, I feel like I'm a little crazy at times for not wanting that.
To me, staying with someone is a commitment. A piece of paper/a ring/an expensive day complete with photo album makes you no less likely to separate/be unhappy 10 years from now, it just means you spent a lot of money on a day where you get to wear a ridiculously expensive dress and uncomfortable heels all day!
My OH's cousins' weddings all cost upwards of 20k. Even if I had that kind of money, I can think of 10 other things I would rather spend it on than a big party.
I'm with you, I really don't understand the need for blowing thousands on a single day.
I've already told my OH, I'd be happy with buying a cheap white sun dress on the high street for £20, going down the registry office with parents, then having a bbq at home with the rest of family and friends.
It would cost £200 max and that would mostly be on food.
With engagement rings, I'd prefer not to have a big expensive one, I've seen lovely diamonique ones on QVC for around £60, platinum. That would do me.0
