cheapo engagement ring

Husband was skint so I bought engagement rings and both were cheap. Mine was five rubies with a diamond in the centre. Some years after we were married I scratched my face badly on the diamond and my face took months to heal completely. I quit wearing it.
A few years later my parents went to Amsterdam and bought me a diamond ring. Worn on my little finger it looked like something out of a cracker, cubic zirconia. Then I lost weight and only finger it would fit was ring finger.
So then family members realise it always was real, OH likes it cos people think he was really generous, my mother grumps because she and father bought it... drama
I'd say go without but I like diamonds0 -
My OH proposed with a cornetto in Rome so there was nothing I could show either - other than the huge grin on my face which I think lasted a month.
I chose not to have a wedding ring, I just didn't feel the need.
If you won't wear one, don't want one, then 'cheap' is still too dear.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I love the whole romantic side of engagement and wedding rings so I would have both. I would like a nice small wedding with friends, lots of flowers and lights, good food and champagne..*cough cava cough*...but I most certainly will never ever take their name. I would double barrel and that's it. That has caused a few issues in past relationships until I asked them to take my name
Perhaps that's why I'm single...?!£20k in 2023 = £2718 £2023 in 2023 = £196.41 Grocery challenge £250= £195.80 **MONEY MAKES ME HAPPY**0 -
I kept my maiden name until OH got grumpy because people assumed he was Mr Maiden as well. I wasn't about to be Mrs His Name when I could be confused with his mother or three sisters in law so I double barrelled. If you have signed marriage certificate in maiden name you can do that, if you signed using husband's surname you have to deed poll.
In Canada it's a really normal thing to do to double barrel without a hyphen. Everyone understands the concept. It's also quite usual to name first kid with wife's maiden name if appropriate.

we got a mickey mouse ring for the engagement announcement (and pic on facebook), €30 or so. I wear it on formal occasions but don't bother most of the time as I'm not a ring wearer type. I'm undecided on an actual wedding ring, depends how comfy they are to wear.0

My wedding ring is called a comfort design. The inner side curves upwards as it reaches the edge. If you were to cut through it and looked at the cut edge, it would look like a very flattened oval. This means that if you catch it against something, you don't have a hard edge that digs in.Make £2025 in 2025

As a a qualified jeweller I personally find diamonds are boring, I'd far rather see a beautiful pigeons-blood ruby or a gorgeous emerald, however these are not inexpensive options.
Due to illness I have spent most of my life very underweight, but in the last few years I've managed to gain weight, with the result that my original engagement and wedding rings no longer fit. I wanted a replacement, but due to current circumstances we couldn't afford anything expensive, so my solution was ebay and alternative materials! My new engagement ring is argentium silver with a solitaire white topaz stone, and my new wedding ring is made from argentium silver. The solitaire came from eBay and ost around £10.00, the wedding band cost around £18.00. My originals are on a chain.
There are lots of alternatives to an engagement ring, some things different friends of mine have done are
1) a charm bracelet, with a new charm added at special occassions and events.
2) matching tattoos
3) a necklace which has a small vial containing the blood of the other person (very off the wall, and unique, but also a bit creepy lol)
It's your engagement, and it's up to you what symbolises your commitment to each other. Whether its jewellery, a ring or just the promises you make to each other. Congratulations, and be yourself"I AM DEATH, NOT TAXES. I TURN UP ONLY ONCE."- Terry Pratchett0 -
I have got an engagement ring, but the ring that means the most is my wedding ring. We went to a jewellery studio and with the support of a very lovely teacher, I made my husbands ring and he made mine. It was a fantastic day, very special and we were given a bottle of bubbly at the end. Every time I look at my ring I remember that day and that my husband worked so hard on making something beautiful for me.0

I have got an engagement ring. It is beautiful, exactly what I would have chosen myself, a statement ring, when we first got engaged I had lots of horrible comments from 'friends' because it wasn't a traditional ring, but I didn't care, I loved it, and still do, however, I just don't find wearing any rings comfortable, so I no longer wear it. OH accepts this fact, and we compromise by me wearing it to special occasions. I don't want a wedding ring, but no one can understand why. I've had some comments from people accusing me of wanting to appear single! it really is down to everyone's individual tastes, the way I see it, is I know I love him and he loves me, I know we are getting married, and he knows that I love him, so that's all that matters0
