Junk mail is just another of the things that is foisted onto poor old Joe Public, which he doesn't want, then is lambasted because he doesn't get rid of it 'properly'.

Why should I pay for the manufacture, distribution and disposal of this stuff then I don't want in the first place ?
If I don't want a sofa from DFS or double glazing from Everest, I don't buy it - but there is just no escape from the junk that drops through my door every day. I only have a newspaper on Sunday, but every other Monday I put out my recycling box FULL of junk mail !! and two copies of the Sunday Times.

I don't wish to appear rude - but - sorry Little, I think you are in a non-job, distributing out and out junk, rubbish, garbage, trash etc, etc, all in all a non product that the consumer doesn't want.

I put junk mail in the same category as bottled water and Paris Hilton - just what do they do for they well being of humanity and the planet ?

As someone who makes a living out of posting junk mail as you call it I think you should all bare in mind that this feeds my kids, puts a roof over there head and also pays my national insurance and tax. I could of cause sit on the dole but then I would also be moaned at I suppose. Oh and by the way, I have a good degree so can certainly read and am also english.

But I do not want to receive unsolicited mail; I think your rationale is a poor excuse.

I have a good degree, am English and have a job that puts a roof over my head too (sorry, no children to feed yet) and I do it without pushing litter through someone's letter box.

I've just joined Royal Mail's 'opt out' scheme so that Royal Mail can't deliver unaddressed junk mail to my house any more :D Suits me just fine :D

All the other fliers etc delivered by hand just go into the paper recycling sack

and if the postie starts returning all your mail as you are not known.how would you feel?
for some reason people seem to think its the postie/sorting offices fault? RM takes on the contracts for D2D items.
any mail addressed to you(or your poperty as occupier is covered under the legal obligation to deliver!

That's okay if you are living at the property at the time. OH has had his house on the market for 6 months as he's moved in with us now, we put up a big sign on his front door saying 'Please do NOT leave junk mail' so that there wasn't piles of it when people came to view with the estate agent, and it wouldn't look too obvious that no one was living there. Not one bit of notice was taken of it, and when we visited, there was a massive pile of it in the porch in the way of the front door. It kept happening, so in the end we had to give up and take the sign down :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yep, I'm not suprised. I tried the sticker on the door thing as well - no-one took a blind bit of notice of it !!
Still... my brothers' dog used to demolish any post that came through the letterbox if he didn't get to it first. He got a post box that is screwed to the outside wall - obviously that didn't solve the junk mail problem, but at least he now gets the choice of reading it or not :D

  • No wonder examination results keep getting better as spelling no longer appears to be a criterion for a 'good degree'. :p

I also get junk mail but have no problem with recycling, as for free papers, try reading them and then recycle. It anoys me how many people have signs that say they are doing it for the environment but have 2 or three cars on their driveway, whilst I walk for my job.

I know you are all going to moan at me, but just think of the other side sometimes.

As the person concerned posted that masterpiece three years ago, and haven't visited MSE since, they have doubtless now got a Master's degree.
