Still struggling with how friendly we are going to become. Can you be friends with your manager I mean really good friends?

I think you can be if you are actually good friends and it's not just because you are thrown together by work. I've always been on friendly terms with my managers and had the occasional drink or lunch with them, or even gone shopping during lunchtime on the odd occasion. But I've never had a really 'buddy buddy' bond. If it makes you uncomfortable it might be a warning signal?

Thanks SSS thinking about I am sure most of it is me overreacting. She did however have a really bad day yesterday and when I asked what was wrong she said its just everything. Then two min later she said I don't take my home problems into work its unprofessional. I really didn't know what to say or ask as I felt it if was a work issue she should tell me about it.

Really wasn't a good day yesterday she was also talking about moving to a different building and scrapping our small managers office which I really don't like. She would then be even less regarded as th manager and there would be no where confidential to talk to people. Will try to talk to her todayshe hates conflict but there is some at the moment not between her and I.

Spoke to my friend last night who is heading off to get married she is in her 30's he's in his 60's but they are so happy. Going to see her tonight for a girlie chat.

Well onwards and upwards going to be a long day at work as shes got me doing one part of my job which I'm rubbish at.

Are you really rubbish at part of your job or do you think you are really rubbish at it? Has someone actually said you are? Has your manager? We are our own worst enemies. Because we cannot do something to the dizzy heights of perfection like everything else we turn a hand to, we sometimes berate ourselves when others are actually very happy with our performance!

Hope the day goes well and without too much stress.

Tahlullah thank you very much for your post, you are right no body thinks I am that bad it is me not thinking I am good enough. I did survive the whole morning doing things I dont think I am good enough at and nobody suffered or died and feedback was mostly positive so good all round.

Had a lovely time in Wales, nice to watch the golf even if we did get there at 12 noon as we had to tax DH car as he couldn't find his insurance document but hey ho. Hotel was really nice (I used to be so bored with hotels) but the staff was lovely and having only paid £2.50 it was very MSE.

We got upgraded to a suite, got two free drinks, got 30% off our dinner and there was free wifi. Back home this morning as we both missed the boys. DH paid for most things I spent a bit on food and drink at the venue and bought 3 golf gloves for £18 one of which was for DH.

Friday night was a bit mad went out for a drink with manager, 1 volunteer and 1 prev volunteer. Ended up at home (minus car) at midnight but it was a good night. Manager was good not talking about work but got quite drunk but all in all it was a good night and hopefully the volunteer will feel ok too. She was telling me some very dark things about her ex which I really didn't need to know.

Anyway lets look at the finances after payday remember this is where we were at the start of this diary:

    Account status as of 18.08.13
Owed to holiday fund £550.00 still owed
Satander CC £598.44 will increase a bit - now £187.35 (long tall sally order mainly)
Overdraft£ 500.00 - gone will be about £300 plus left once bills go out.
    Tesco CC £131.20 £7.16
    Total Debt£1,779.64

    Total debt as of 1/9/13
    Santander £187.35
    Barclay Card £946.69
    Tesco £7.61
    Owed to holiday fund £550
    Total £1691.65

Not that great and we still have the camping trip to come but manageable for sure.

Want to make some bread sticks so I dont have to buy them for my lunch but dont had the right ingredients. Might just cobble something together.

Still doing ok renewed the annual BT bill payment in advance I use a prefix number for Denmark so it cost me 1p a min or Skype so hardly any call charges.

Booked in to have my hair cut tomorrow after work, I don't think I have had it cut since before Christmas so about time. £37 but I don't have to colour it (never have done) so its cheap really.

Got a managers meeting at 11 this morning so didn't need to go into work, will head off about 10am allowing plenty of time to get there. Wearing my new skirt from long tall sally I do love it. Also doing some studying for a course Thursday. Didn't make the gym last night was behind with something at work so not fair to go home as manager needed it for today and I shall not be in.

    Will do Zumba tonight though.

Looking forward to the camping trip and starting to really enjoy my work. I miss the big salary and and free car, mobile you name it but I'm learning a lot and its a challenge for me to be a good manager.

Lunch is provided for today so thats good went out for dinner last night was bad.

Today was almost a no spend day until I saw Martins weekly email preview was going to order some winter pansies anyway so getting the tulip bulbs was a bonus. Will be able to grow them on in the greenhouse before planting them outside. Spend £16

Meeting went ok one chap was quite patronising but I held my own and the good thing is I know everyone and is well respected from prev job so it's quite easy to fit in.

Didn't go back to work but then got text at 8pm manager just got home and will be Working late tomorrow so could I do something for her, yes of course so lets hope I don't mess it up. Will get in super early tomorrow to catch up on today and make sure I can do the things she asked me to do.

Just watched Great British Bakeoff do love that show but time to find a good luck card to bring in tomorrow and then head for bed. Did make Zumba so should sleep well tonight.

  • Oh dear, Martin isn't supposed to tempt us to spend!
Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D
