A 10 year old with a healthy seaside appetite is likely to have cost more than a "little bit" of money to feed for several days.
I doubt it. I feed her all year round in various different locations and conditions. If they'd taken her teenage brother I'd have seen your point. :D

    Location doesn't matter :) A chain holiday camp/venue?

Seaside resorts are brilliant for making you skint,'cheap' or otherwise (I don't think there is such a thing as a cheap seaside resort btw lol)

It's likely the mums money didn't go far enough.Or she could be a pain, but the former is likely.
No not a chain. A private site.

Depends how it's done.Eating at home is always cheaper.

Depends where they purchased food, what snacks they had, what drinks they had, what they grabbed out without really registering it.

And people tend to do things differently on holiday.Ok,some do it as cheap as possible (and try and keep things free),but many don't

I agree, but this was an invited guest ... if the money ran out then the host family should have shouldered the extra cost.

While they may have eaten mainly at home in the caravan they might have bought more ready meals as they were on holiday and didn't want to be prepping meals. Plus may have bought more treats like drinks, crisps etc.

That's assuming they could afford to.It's also assuming ops daughter didn't want specifics.

It might just be they felt the £40 was a contribution towards taking her on holiday with them and cut the cost of accommodation for them all. i.e. I could book a villa for 3 of us for say £500 and inviting one extra doesn't make it more costly but if the 4th person pays a share it makes it cheaper all around and made the holiday more affordable for them.

I think next time you need to be clearer and say "do you want me to give x percentage as share of accommodation costs" so then you know add "this is for food and day drips and if it isn't enough let me know".

They had a cooked breakfast each day in the accommodation and then a meal when they went back late afternoon/early evening because dd has commented that 'they don't eat 'dinner' (lunch to the southerners). I believe this to be correct as when DD stays at friends there is often a 'mid-day meal' missing for want of a better word, when I'm querying what she's had and if I've queried it with daughter's friend if she's come back to stay she'll state that they don't have dinner. In addition they are not early risers, so I also suspect the cooked breakfast was serving as a brunch.

But if they couldn't afford it they didn't have to invite an extra guest, and if money was really tight then they needn't have gone to the aquarium at all.
