This is the instruction from the faq on RM survey page

What is the unaddressed mail survey?
The unaddressed mail survey monitors all items of mail which are delivered to your household but not addressed to a particular person; E.g., to the homeowner/occupier. This can include advertising leaflets.

Surely that means a letter addressed as

    To the householder
    1 Smith Street
    London

    is unaddressed mail!
  • I am doing unaddressed mail survey at moment. Have received a letter to "the householder" with my address on it - is this classed as unaddressed? Thanks

That does not count for the unaddressed survey.

If it said 'to the householder' with no address, then it would.

    From the training PDF:

    "What is unaddressed mail?

Unaddressed mail is any item delivered that does not have an address on it. This could be delivered by Royal Mail or other mail delivery companies. Unaddressed mail could be delivered any
at time of the day. Examples include takeaway menus, promotional literature, “to the occupier” letters
    with no specific address etc.

That just goes to show how differing their information is! The PDF attached to the 'thank you for doing the survey' email is where I got my quote, and it makes it clear it needs a name. The website is as clear as mud.

OP, sounds like an email to TNS is in order :)

Why worry about it people ?

TNS do not know or track (not very often anyway) what unaddressed mail is going through your door. If you are not sure what to do, just do what you think is right and enter the data accordingly. TNS will never find out with UMS.
  • Thanks for replies it is very confusing will email them and let you know what they say x
  • The "correctly delivered" survey is about mail which is delivered which is either addressed to the address or to a named person in the household. So a "to the householder" at the specified address would count as correctly delivered. I don't see how that could also be an "unaddressed" item.

Ive received my first pack today and it says that smarts will follow before the first posting day but I'm supposed to send something today and something tomorrow?
  • Got my Xmas stamps owed to me since I have been doing the survey.
  • Had a reply about unaddressed mail which states that as the item contains my address not to log it
  • Another quick question for the experts, I have received my first magazine, all good - but it contained no smart, on entering info it said this item should contain a smart & to recheck. Do sealed publications normally have a smart in?
