The way to prove that is to provide satisfactory, qualified evidence that you can only walk under 20 metres.

    Thanks for your reply billywilly:
Would a letter from a GP be satisfactory or would it need to be from a consultant or surgeon?
If your gp or consultant wrote to DWP that would help , my daughter won her appeal with more written evidence of her gp and consultant ....its not that they don't believe you at all . i think they just need more evidence , they do change there minds some times . Good luck xx

Phoned PIP this lunchtime, apparently an award has been made but because the back payment is over a certain amount, it has to be checked with someone else (think I have read others having this happen).

Mind you, got a text from the DWP 20 minutes ago to tell me my income support has been changed as I am now in receipt of PIP!

Not going to be relieved until I have the letter in my hand and the back payment in the bank though....and then it is straight onto ordering a full suspension wheelchair for me, mine is ok and has been a god send over the last almost 4 years but the jarring is becoming (ok, has become) an issue.
Brilliant news !! so happy for you xx

Thanks, been confirmed it is enhanced care/enhanced mobility and the back payment has been released which should be in my bank on Monday, however, the letter is still not available for access to all, so no idea how long it has been awarded for.

She was able to tell me future payment dates and amounts though.

I can get my new wheelchair!!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

You say that you struggle to walk 20 metres, they say you could walk between 50 and 200 metres. The way to prove that is to provide satisfactory, qualified evidence that you can only walk under 20 metres.

As for calling you a liar - I doubt it, more likely they think that you have been economical with the truth.
Under the guidelines, it's whether you can walk the distance repeatedly, safely and in a timely manner. You could walk 100m once but struggle to walk back again, so you woukd be classed as only being able to walk up to 50m.

And you need to be unable to do this most days in the one year assessment period.
So, even if your walking ability is fine for 5 months of the year, if your walking ability is as above for 7 months, you would qualify.

I know it is bad form to quote your own post but just as an update I have found out how long it has been awarded for now....until 2019.

Had my renewal assessment on 3rd June, got my result this morning. I was on standard mobility only, this time I have been awarded standard mobility and also standard care element. Both awarded until 2020 with next assessment in May 2019. I'm really happy with the outcome.

Also, I have to say that I found the experience with ATOS much more pleasant this time around than it was back in 2012 when I had my first PIP assessment.
Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............

Got my appeal bundle today- sent me into meltdown  they are still arguing that I have no problem communicating with men I don't know despite me providing a letter from my psychologist explaining why I do (they won't accept this- I have no idea why, she is a qualified psychologist working for the NHS) I have also discovered they have used evidence that I supplied for ESA!!! I rang and asked why and they did say they were utterly puzzled why I had been awarded ESA for the same condition and was being refused PIP. So in a last desperate attempt I rang and spoke to ESA who are sending me a copy of the decision- ie what descriptor was applied although I'm fairly certain it's the same one.
Despite the fact it's likely going to cause me enormous distress I'm going to tribunal, previously I had asked for a paper one. I'm going to let them see how worked up and upset I get and the fact I won't be able to speak if one of the panel is male. Then I'm going to see them argue that communication with men I don't know is possible...

  • Won my appeal yesterday after only 5 minutes in the room with the panel  :T

They didn't ask me any questions. I used the benefits and work website for my mandatory reconsideration letter and they read that and the judge said its one of the best letters he has ever read

The system is flawed. I scored 0 points on both my original decision and mandatory reconsideration, and was awarded 25 yesterday.

when should I expect to receive the back payment? They emailed the decision to the DWP yesterday afternoon.
