They told me the timescale for MR is 8 weeks, that would take me to 24th June. The rest of the process has been ok time wise so I'm not feeling at the point of needing to complain just yet.

A decision has been made apparently on my claim for PIP.

I rang yesterday and the decision had been made yesterday and as such, she couldn't access the letter sent out as it has to be scanned in or something. From what she said, it sounded positive (notification of new claim award) but until I get the letter or ring them again once it is scanned in, I won't get excited/relieved etc.

Claim was made 10th Sept 2014, home assessment was 13th May.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

  • Just been on the phone to the dwp and they have made a decision on my MR, I wrote them a letter and sent extra evidence as I felt they had made a mistake, they said I could walk 50-200 metres, when I actually put on the form that I struggled to walk 20 metres. They have come back and said that they will not change their decision, I feel gutted. I believe it was a mistake of theirs in the 1st place, are they calling me a liar!? I'm so angry, all I want is a blue badge to help me, I struggle getting in and out of the car with arthritis, i'm 37 and am having a full hip replacement in august. I have been struggling since the age of 17.and have never put a claim in before, only when I feel I needed it most.

You say that you struggle to walk 20 metres, they say you could walk between 50 and 200 metres. The way to prove that is to provide satisfactory, qualified evidence that you can only walk under 20 metres.

As for calling you a liar - I doubt it, more likely they think that you have been economical with the truth.

Phoned PIP this lunchtime, apparently an award has been made but because the back payment is over a certain amount, it has to be checked with someone else (think I have read others having this happen).

Mind you, got a text from the DWP 20 minutes ago to tell me my income support has been changed as I am now in receipt of PIP!

Not going to be relieved until I have the letter in my hand and the back payment in the bank though....and then it is straight onto ordering a full suspension wheelchair for me, mine is ok and has been a god send over the last almost 4 years but the jarring is becoming (ok, has become) an issue.

    Thanks for your reply billywilly:
Would a letter from a GP be satisfactory or would it need to be from a consultant or surgeon?

Anyone would do, Social Worker, OT, GP, Consultant.
If you can one of them to corroborate the fact that you cannot walk anywhere near 20 metres giving the reason why, send it off to the DWP.
