  • I'd just like to add my own experience on timescales from when I applied to the decision.

I applied for PIP on the 6th of December, the lady on the initial call did tell me applications were taking 26 weeks. I received the forms a week later and returned them 5 weeks later (a week too late and I did receive a reminder letter but I rang up a week later after sending in the form and they had said they had revived this and it was to be processed.) This was mid January.

I then received a letter for an ATOS appointment for an appointment for the 1st of April, which then got cancelled as the person who was going to assess me was off sick, this got rescheduled for mid-April then again for the 29th.

After seeing the lady at ATOS I was told I would receive a disicion in 8 weeks.

I then googled PIP time scales and came across this thread and saw the number above and decided to give them a call. Even though it had only been exactly 3 weeks since the interview.

To this point I had waited very patiently, I hadn't rang in once to chase it up and let it stress me out, as I was told on the 1st call it would take 26 WEEKS.

Anyway I was told (today) that a letter had been sent out yesterday 2nd class and she would brifly read it out to me, I was told I had enhanced on both components which I couldn't be happier with and the money will be paid Tuesday next week. She did go on to say its possible it could be re assessed in that time which I have previously read did happen to 925dancer!

Which in all has taken 23 weeks from the initial contact to decision. and four weeks from assessment to possible award.

My advice is to just assume it's going to take the full run and to sit patient! They are getting there in the end!

It seems they are getting better, but 23 weeks is still too long. A lot depends on where you live as well.

I'm at 36 weeks now.....had my assessment last week (after it had been postponed a week by them).

Youngest (transition at age 16 from DLA to PIP), is at 14 months...he also had his assessment last week after they postponed it twice before.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Will they backdate your money to the original date of applying or just until

If it is a new application for PIP, then it is backdated to the day you asked for the forms.
If it is a migration from DLA, then it is not backdated at all.

They are delaying new applicants yet it seems that they are rushing through reviews of existing claimants. I was awarded PIP for 3 years until April 2016 but last week I received a new form to fill in. I filled it in and sent it back and lo and behold I have an appointment with an ATOS health assessor in 2 weeks time ! No doubt its all part of the process to cut the welfare budget.
Its amazing how these banks can't even do simple calculations correctly..............
  • Hi there, I'm new to the forum but have been following for a month or so.
I applied for pip on the 24th Feb, had my assessment on the 6th may and got my decision today 21st may. It wasn't what I expected unfortunately. I have been granted standard daily allowance which I'm over the moon with, problem is I have not been granted any mobility at all. I put on the form that I couldn't walk more than 20 metres, but on the decision letter it quotes I can walk 50 - 200 metres unaided. This must be a mistake either on their part or mine, or maybe the assessor ticked the wrong box. But I can't even walk to the end of my driveway without being in agony.
I phoned them this morning g straight away and they said to put it in writing.
Does anyone have any experience of how long this will take if I post it tomorrow?
    Thanks in advance.

Dad received a letter today saying he's being paid his PIP and it will be backdated to March, this is from only receiving his confirmation on Saturday! I think they're moving very quick.

I do hope that they don't do that when they come round to reassessing the whole country staring in October? That would be totally unfair on the new claimants. Rushing through existing claimants on the basis that they already had been awarded DLA so they must have difficulties.
Level playing fields! They are supposed to be reducing the number of awards by 20% to save money - that should be across the board and NOT just the new claimants.
