Just a tip for people waiting ages for their assessments. I have been waiting a few months for mine, phoning every few days in case there was a cancellation but with no luck. Anyway, last week, I said I would go anywhere- was immediately given an appointment 90 miles away in February. It will be a bit of an effort getting there, but it means I'll at least get the assessment over.
You can look online on the ATOS site to see where the centres are and pick a few that are do-able, then ask about availability there. Might be worth avoiding the big cities too as obviously everyone will be choosing them.
If you can travel, and are STILL waiting for an assessment, it might be worth a try.
Good Luck0 -

I had one a few years ago for Industrial Injuries and the ATOS woman just, very slowly, wrote down what I'd already put in the form. She was a right old bat!! I didn't qualify after her assessment, but did on Appeal. BTW, the two Appeal people were really nice; sympathetic and friendly.0 -

I too was ringing every week for appointment, think I hit lucky when I eventually got mine. I hope you won't get penalised for travelling so far for yours.RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

Question, how would if work if I disagreed with the care, but not mobility? Would they suspend both until appeal was heard, or however it works? Interesting to see what I actually qualify for.....RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

I was lucky it was there and not 100 miles in the other direction, which I would probably have had to refuse. I wouldn't be able to comfortably travel there and back in one day and still be able to move!!
Make sure they know the great lengths you have had to go to just to get an appointment and be able to attend, it's a farce, the whole thing. Sounds like a long long wait for atos to send the report off too.RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

I think I filled in the form in September, so that's 5 months before I even got an appointment. Still will be a nice back payment, when I get it.0 -
When is this situation going to hit the media I wonder and how much are taxpayers paying for these incompetent health companies. Time to do something instead of sitting here feeling helpless. :mad:0

On the subject of assessment questions and disregarding important information, part of my form discussed how my husband controls (hides) all harmful substances in the house after I attempted suicide approx. a year before my assessment. When it came to reviewing this information she proceeded to tell me that because it had been so long since I last attempted suicide it wasn't important. What she failed to see is how my husband is probably responsible for my lack of recent attempts. He spends everyday trying to keep me alive. Why is that not important? :cool:0
