A quick synopsis of my experience claiming PIP.
I began the process in mid January as a brand new claimant.
The forms were received, completed and returned by the end of February.
At the start of August I was sent the date for an interview with Capita at the end of the month.
I attended the interview yesterday only to find it had been cancelled (no contact at all).
The Capita staff were extremely helpful and found that my details had gone back to DWP. I was given the relevant phone numbers etc but as it was late Friday pm, I decided to chase it up on Monday.
This morning the decision letter was on the mat - lower rate Daily Living but nothing for Mobility. As my mobility is so varied, I am content with the decision. The arrears should land in my account next week according to the letter.
I gather from the Capita staff that the delays have become so serious that decisions are being made without interview if possible: I seem to have met those criteria as I have rheumatoid arthritis which has become increasingly hard to cope with over the last ten years.
I hope thisI can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
I rang a few weeks ago to find out what was happening to my son's PIP claim, and just before the stage where you speak to a human being, there was a message saying claims are taking 26 weeks from application to decision.0

I've heard that before too. Can't remember where I read it though. It may have even been on here.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I have been awarded lower rate mobility in July this year, i applied for a MR and was still refused. I was in the process of going for an appeal and had to go to see my consultant after a recent MRI scan i had the results i am in total shock. I am 45 and was told i need a heart transplant as my heart is only functioning at 10%.
I rang pip up as they say you need to report any changes so i rang them and told them and asked what would happen to my claim. They said you still need to go for the appeal.
Question is do all the people on here who have knowledge of pip think this is rite?
Please advise if you have any thoughts on what i can do.
Thank you in advance.0 -

Hi Poppy12345,
I have severe breathing problems and cannot walk without getting out of breath. no more than 20 metres. i cant wipe myself without getting severe pain in my back thus having to get in the shower to clean myself. I was awarded points for help with cooking and bathroom needs and dressing but no points for toileting needs. I have told them all this and spoke to the DM and he treated me like a child and said basically they take what the Care professional puts on the assesment.0 -
I would appeal. If you put in for a change of circumstance, your money will only get backdated to the date when you informed them. If you appeal, your money is backdated to the date of your original claim.
You have to go through a mandatory reconsideration first.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Hi, It's my understanding that to be awarded a minimum 2 points for toilet you either need the use of an aid or assistance from someone. If you don't then you'll be awarded 0 points. However i'm not a medical person i'm just simply going by what i just read in the pip scoring system. I've also read somewhere that they do take into consideration the assessment providers report, that's the whole reason for having these assessments. The only other thing i can suggest you do is continue with the appeal and get as much extra evidence as you possibly can. I.E Consultants/ OT/ GP etc. I had evidence from all 3and it helped me get standard for both. Good luck whatever you decide to do.0 -

Hi Indie kid,
I have done a mandatory reconsideration and was still refused so i am going down the route of appeal. I have a report from my consultant as well. Thank you for your help.0
