Just got a letter for my DS who turns 16 in Nov. He had his DLA award til november next year but they are going to 'PIP' him now. I have a lady visiting on Friday so does this mean I don't have to fill out the renewal forms and he'll just be having the face to face assessment instead? He isn't very verbal and if I get him to stay in the same room it'll be a bonus!

Were you told why this lady is visiting? A few people on here have had visits from DWP regarding whether they can manage their money if their child doesn't have the capacity to do so.

Indie I think it is for that, thanks for your reply :) I had a similar visit for my other son but just a bit confused as I also had a letter a week earlier asking me if I wanted to submit his claim for PIP.I can't get my head round the adult side of things as easily as I could when they claimed as kids!
Do they do a home assessment for this PIP thing as I'm going to struggle to get him anywhere near an assessment centre? He has Autism and learning difficulties and doesn't do too well in unfamiliar/noisy places etc.

They should do a home visit. But you may need a GPs letter explaining why he can't attend a centre.

    Hi All,

Had an update on my claim for PIP.

Just had a phone call from case manager after i requested a call back 7 days ago and i think my MP had got on the case.

The case manager i spoke to said she would be looking at my case today or tomorrow and i should hear by the weekend or beginning of next week.

She explained what happens if you are awarded you just get a letter. If you are not awarded you get a letter and a phone call 7 days later which gives you time to prepare to put in a MR.

Will update you as soon as i know anymore.:cool::cool:
  • Hi
I finally had a response from my MP's office. The lady asked for my NI number to ask questions on my behalf.
Still no call back from the case manager, although when I rang DWP yesterday I was told that it could be another 2 or 3 weeks before a decision is made.
So still really no further forward, but shall see what the MP can do.
Will keep you updated with any developments.
Good luck to all others waiting in the system, and hope that you all get speedy decisions.
