I don't and it just wouldn't feel right but my Mum does (or did) to her in-laws. Reckon that's more to do with her parents dying when she was very young though, probably felt comforting for her to have someone to call Mum and Dad.0

Both my parents called their in-laws mum and dad. I find it really odd and don't think I could do it. I remember a boyfriend when I was about 19 sending my parents a Christmas card "to mum and dad" which I, and they hated!!

I always called my late mother in law 'mum' as she treated me like a daughter and I loved her.
My husband was very close to my late dad but called him by his first name, and he never ever speaks to my mother so it does not matter.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. my mum always called my dad's parents mum and dad, but my dad always used first names for my mums parents. my paternal grandparents always referred to my maternal grandparents by their first names (like my dad) but my maternal grandparents would refer to my dads parents as Mr & Mrs M******.Dogs return to eat their vomit, just as fools repeat their foolishness. There is no more hope for a fool than for someone who says, "i am really clever!"0

No but I always called Oh's grandmothers Grandma (first name). It just seemed respectful to me.0

My DD did similar except it was when we were on holiday with Bro SIL and their kids......... so she kept referring to 'Daddy' as 'Uncle Colin'. 'Uncle Colin' was not happy:rotfl:
To answer the original question, no, it's a first name basis, although my parents referred to their inlaws as mum and dad so it must be a generational thing.0 -
No i don't, I just use MIL first name. It is OK though cos my SIL (her daughter) was adamant that she wouldn't call her own MIL mum so I don't think it was expected.I wanna be in the room where it happens0

No, but my MIL did suggest it. Thankfully my mum was there and quickly said "oh I think they're a bit old for that, that's for couples that get together at 18" Like in the old days". Then confirmed with my OH that he'd feel strange calling her 'mum'. However it can depend on the personalities involved as my cousins' partners call my aunt 'mom' as they are very close and affectionate.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

I never have but my ex called my mum 'mum'...his borthers wives all called his mum 'mum', I was the only one who didn't.
In this marriage neither of us call the MIL 'mum' but it took ages before my now MIL would sign a card to me as anything other than from 'Kevin's mum' which I thought went a bit far the other way!0
