Thanks meritaten, we knew dad only had a short time left and, to be honest, it felt more like a blessing when he finally gave up fighting the cancer, he'd no quality of life at the end.

Mum say's Dad's dog seems to be sick every other day, I guess he's out of sorts and routine. Scrappy will keep him entertained (they adore each other) and Tommo will act as bodyguard to Scrappy. Mum will get extra kitty cuddles and Scrappy will get lots of fuss. Everybody wins :)

Tuesday - Grandgirls day! but I bought them each a craft kit (Sequin Art) and they got stuck into that! Barney was virtually ignored apart from a quick cuddle from C! he wasn't pleased! went and napped (sulked) on his pillow for an hour, then when OH came in he thought he would get some attention. didn't happen - so he returned to his pillow! OH has had Barney on his lap ALL evening since we returned the grandgirls to their parents!

I get the distinct feeling I am somehow going to PAY for all this! been getting The Glare. even putting down his favourite supper hasn't softened him. OH well, what will be, will be.

I know what mean about the Glare ! Eric went to the vet for his dental scale and polish, luckily no extractions. So that meant he was grounded and starved from 8pm last night. Tonight he isn't allowed out after his anaesthetic ! If looks could kill !
I'm knackered because he kept me awake most of the night nagging for food. Little s#d sat on my pillow and sank his fangs into my scalp. If I wasn't such a softie he wouldn't have needed the dentist - he'd have no teeth left (joke, couldn't hurt my little man)

This made me giggle as Gizmo is exactly the same. If he's peckish or wants attention during the night her nips me. Usually on the hand, elbow, sholder, cheek or nose depending on how I'm laid and what is exposed. The amount of times I've said to him "one of these days I'm going to knock your teeth out" and he just looks at me as if to say "yeah right, now get up and do as I demand slave".

I would definately recommed da bird Meri, it's amazing, it even gets Salem moving and he usually just lounges around and watches Gizmo play. I bought a cheap one from zooplus (Was less than £2) to give a try first and it was such a big hit but didn't order da bird until it was no longer usable. Need to buy them a new one as Salem has removed the main of the big feathers now although it did last a lot longer than the cheaper one.

I was considering trying to make my own as my parents have cockatiels and parakeets so have a constant supply of large feather but have no idea where I would begin :o

I woke up this morning with a scratch on my forehead! now either Barnes trampled over my head to get to his pillow, and his paw 'slipped' - or I managed to scram myself in my sleep! I went out like a light last night - and woke up at 5.30 convinced I had overslept for GS2! was downstairs and opening the front door to 'NO-ONE' then making my tea before I looked at clock and felt like weeping! I could've had another three quarters of an hour! honestly, I am getting paranoid I am going to oversleep (my alarm isn't working - and tbh I don't really want to set one as OH doesn't have to get up til 7.15).
Barney got a very sleepy 'good morning Barnes' from GS2! then they watched CBeebies while I made their breakfasts. Barnes just seems to enjoy GS2s company - he certainly doesn't expect to be 'playing' at silly o clock in the morning! they both sit there staring at the tv!
Barnes then retired exhausted for some more 'napping'.

I was absolutely gobsmacked today. Barnes now sits and waits on the rug for me to do his 'groom and treats'. He has always disliked being groomed. I dunno why. I have always tried to be very gentle and do the minimum to keep him comfortable and his coat looking good. and bribe him heavily with dreamies and he gets his treat stick when we are finished.
Today! (drum roll please!) he PURRED loudly from start to finish! I mean LOUDLY! he really seemed to enjoy it! when I first got him I could hardly keep him still...............and now he lets me wash his face (if needed), clean his eyes (and his nose), comb through his fur - even his belly today, and not a single complaint or escape attempt!

this week he has fallen asleep on me every day - OK I have to be reclining or lying down (no lapsitting for ME, that's reserved for OH!), but I get a nice massage, then Barnes has a little nap - when I think back to August...........the closest he got, well that was behind me on the sofa back!
and now - he lets me nurse him like a baby too! this afternoon he got a 'nurse' and he stroked my face with his paw! I nearly had leaky eyes! he stared at me intently the whole time - then slowly 'cat-smiled' at me.

He is certainly letting his 'softer' side out! lol - its almost as if he has relaxed now. when he first came to me he was a lovely, well mannered cat - and would show affection, but very guardedly. now its as if his guard is being lowered - I think he is starting to trust now. and he is the 'One and Only Cat - which I think is his preferred position!

That's really nice to hear :)

Scrappy went off to Grandma's last night. He seemed a little confused as she's rearranged the furniture and his favourite spot (on the back of the armchair which was in front of the fire) has moved.

The vet gave us some more Ovarid (sp?) for his over grooming but I'm hpoing a few weeks at Grandma's will do him good.

I went up to do the 'spare bedroom' and left the door open when I finished - or rather when I had just about finished and the phone was ringing! FGS! every double glazing and survey firm in the UK phoned me today! Grrrrrrr!
anyways - I settled down with a nice cup of coffee and heard a 'thump' from the front bedroom. going to investigate I found Barnes on the windowsill watching the activities in the street and the lovely vase and flower arrangement (xmas pressie from Atrix and his wife and kids) on the floor. I put it back and Barnes swiped at it and hit it off again. lol. I have no idea what the cops were doing - but there were a lot of them all standing about, then they piled back into their cars and headed out! Barnes was obviously fascinated! this is one view of the street he doesn't often get! I keep the door closed usually. and the view from the downstairs window is below street level..............so he was enjoying this!
but the 'arrangement' ............hmmmm.............he decided to investigate this. sniffed it - not interesting apparently, he took a tentative bite at it. decided that didn't taste good. so it got swiped back down to the floor! I relocated it! if Barnes wants to street watch from on high - that's fine!
he got a bit bored I think and soon joined me on the settee!

well today I went up to bathroom and Barney was sat outside the front bedroom door. He obviously wanted in - so I let him in. lol - perhaps he expected a repeat performance of yesterdays 'activity'! he was disappointed! No cops!
one lone postman...............hardly exciting! so he came down and fished out his Christmas pressie...........I have nicknamed it 'giant flattened mouse'! he beat it up for a good while! I cant see it lasting much longer, he has nearly shredded it! he likes to hold it in his front paws and use his back feet (claws out) to beat it into submission!

I got my daily cat massage - and he not only settled down on me for a nap - he was virtually 'in my face'! so he got lots of 'kisses'. he didn't reciprocate - but he didn't pull away either! just sighed and settled down for a nap!

Sorry - late post tonight! Grandgirls having a sleepover and the youngest one wasn't happy, wanted to go home! but, she is currently asleep with her sisters in our king size bed (OH is in front spare room I am in back one!) only way we can accommodate them. and Barney is right now lying on the foot of the bed - probably deciding which one is going to get a 'cat crown' tonight!
the girls brought down party bags which had balloons in. C blew one up and Barney watched with interest ...............until she let it go and it blew around the room! he screeched like a girl and shot out! rofl!
They had prawns for supper as usual - so I had to keep some for Barney and feed them to him slowly while they were eating thiers. honestly, its the only people food I have ever seen him take an interest in! apart from ice cream.
