oh my word! Barnes has hardly been out of the house! it just hasn't stopped raining here! even my solar lights in the garden aren't lighting up as they aren't getting enough 'daylight'!
he is lucky if I let him outside once or twice a day for five minutes.
Fortunately, most of the housing in the 'valleys' is well above river levels. I have never been so thankful to live on a steep slope!
Barnes coat is now so thick he needs new grooming brushes. I bought him one yesterday (cost me over £5 and it still doesn't get down to his undercoat). then I thought .....'my old hairbrush'! works perfectly! I may have to use the 'catbrush' myself! lol, as my hair was 'fine' to begin with and just keeps getting 'finer'.
People keep commenting that Barnes is putting on weight! he has a bit - but its mostly his fur! lovely to touch though, and when he lies on my feet at night............mmmmm like a furry hot water bottle!
Sorry Duchy - OH took down the Christmas tree before I could take pics of Barnes with it. I only turned my back for ten minutes and it was GONE!0 -

With teeth and sharp claws....
But when that purr kicks in, it makes it worthwhile. Her courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.0 -
Glad you have a nice time over the festive season Mer, it was quite quiet for us but I think my two furry babies prefer it that way, too many visitors and they both freak out
Both mine just love sitting on paper and the crinkle doesn't bother them in the least (not good when dd is trying to study though!) so santa bought them a self heating fluffy pad with a sheet of silver reflective paper in it ....will they go onto it, nope not a chance, they drive me crazy!
I must admit that being scottish we enjoy Hogmanay up here, don't usually go out but always stay up for 'the bells', anyway this year our friends came over and we had a lovely evening playing games - anyone got Mr & Mrs? we had a great laugh with that, anyway as I'm normally an early bedder I totally threw Sam out of his routine and he was bamboozled all evening :rotfl:Every night he waits at the top of the stairs for bed, then needs me to lift him onto my bedroom window sill for a wee nosy outside then jumps down onto my side of the bed and plonks himself on my leg  So instead he just prowls around the house, keeps sitting on my feet in the living room, moaning every so often and generally is totally confused, slept most of the next day as well poor boy
Glad the floods are well away from you, looks horrendous on the east coast of Scotland tonight and we are extremely lucky being in the west that we haven't even had any rain yesterday or today.
Our kids don't go back to school till thursday so a few more lie-ins to be had up here, be nice to get back to normal though xx0 -
Nonnie, I have a couple of those fluffy self heating pads, Tikka and Casper love them.
Harley is currently sleeping on a sheet of bubble wrap I left on the sofa in the spare room, maybe the bubbles of air heat up as he sleeps or maybe he likes the crinkle, I don't know!0 -
Nonnie - sounds like you had a great 'Hogmanay'! We all played Charades Christmas day, and on our Buffet day we played 'Catchphrase'! it was great fun and the more the adults 'imbibed' the more fun it was! I remember MR and MRS. There was also a game we used to play with friends down the caravan called 'Dirty Minds' - the kids always won! cos their minds were 'cleaner'!
Barnes is very pleased with himself tonight! I let him out after we went shopping, even though it was dark and OH opened the French door to let him in again and quietly called me to 'watch this'. Barnes was facing off this Black cat (I think it belongs to the over the road neighbour), not a word was said between them, but Barnes ears went back he stood up and sort of 'fluffed up - he looked HUGE'!) and the Black cat backed away....then Barnes rushed at it and it went 'flying over the garden and over the fence! so, one intruder repelled by intrepid Persian Housecat!
I think its the same cat who 'visits' me out the front. he once spent the night in my porch as he came flying in while I was having a ciggy and hid behind the door! he didn't seem to want to leave so I left him there. in the morning he rubbed up against me meowed and left when I opened the door. I can only assume the local fox had scared him!0 -
Think I'll try bubble wrap his missus, certainly be cheaper!
Meri, ds got Catchphrase from my our friends as he loves the programme and we all thoroughly enjoyed playing it . Anyone get Pieface at all? Mmhh not one to play whilst wearing contact lenses, thought closing my eyes would be fine but alas all that happened was that the cream still made it's way into my eyes and I knew what it's like to have cataracts for a wee while :rotfl:
Go Barnes! Wish my two were even a bit more brave although having me as a 'mum' it's really no surprise that they are wimps, let's just say I'm really easily scared and growing up in a house with 5 older brothers they took full advantage of this fact :eek:0 -
awww Nonnie! poor you! I was the eldest - nearly six years older than my bro and 12 years older than my sis. Mum taught me to be bossy at an early age! although I had all male cousins all older than me and I certainly wasn't taking any carp from them!
his missus - Barnes prefers knitting patterns to bubble wrap! preferably the pattern I am trying to follow! I must get one of those music stands - that'll foil him!0 -
I don't think I've ever been bossy in my life and I'm really jealous!
I'm tea total, and I said to hubby that if I ever drank to keep all phones away from me, as I'm sure I would just sit and phone people and tell them what I really think of them - I could just imagine it haha!!
I like the idea of a music stand but I think a determined Barnes might just wreck havoc on it0 -
I just meant that I am used to taking responsibility and standing up for my siblings and stop them getting into trouble! I go to a lot of effort to NOT interfere or impose my own ideals on others. but , I do like to 'organise and get things done - my way'!lol
I cant imagine getting bossed about by 5 older brothers - I would need Trauma Counselling for life!
my mother was the 'boss' in our house and before her my nan was 'boss'! I had the example of both of them!
but now, I get bossed about by this gorgeous Persian Cat! and I love it!0 -
sorry for the long interval between posts - I haven't been on here so much lately - and when I have, have quickly got fed up and moved on! its not the same forum it used to be and I am sick of the random 'bullying'.
still, Barnes is the happy cat he always is - and even happier now its not 'peeeing down' every day!
the hairbrush idea isn't really working, it does get down through his coat, but the bristles/prongs are too far apart and it takes ages to thoroughly groom him and make sure there are no matts. so its back to the drawing board and research what professional cat groomers use.
I swear though, that after grooming he deliberately has a good scratch in order to 'backcomb' his fur into matts!0
