Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

Sorry, mellymoo, that made me chuckle.
Mine have a tendency of sticking their heads out of the cat flap, realising it's raining then sitting by the front door as if to say "I'll go out this way please" only to realise it's raining out front too!0 -

Got home from work last night to find clumps of grey fur all over the kitchen! Scrappy has randomly started overgrooming again
I combed him and there's no sign of fleas or flea dirt on him (the male vet insists his overgrooming is due to an allergy of flea bites) and the only noticeable change in routine/food is that we had a surveyor visit on Monday morning.
Fortunately I have a few Ovarid left which will see him through the next 2 weeks and he's off to mum's anyway next Thursday so fingers crossed!
Pixie's been back to the vets for overgrooming again. She's much better than at the start, but still got a line down her back she's biting at. Another steroid jab but the vet won't give her any more after this one. He's ordering in a bag of venison and pea dried food for the end of the month so that as the steroid wears off we'll try a diet change to try and find out whether it's a dietary cause.
We're inclined to think it's not stress that's causing it, she had tablets last time to calm her down, with no noticeable effect.Make £2025 in 2025

hi slinky! hope Pixie is on the mend soon!
melly - Barnes thinks I turn the sun on via the switch on the wall!
Barnes is a happy cat tonight! GS2 back for a 'sleepover' and time to 'get her head together'. He accompanied her to bed, waited until she was asleep and then came down to watch tv with OH. two minutes later he was back upstairs 'checking on her'. then back down, then back up.................he is driving me nuts! as he isn't exactly light on his paws going up and down stairs - in fact, he sounds like a twenty stone bloke! or a stroppy teen!
sunny today after a few showers this morning, but that breeze was rather cold! so an 'in and out' day for Barnes today. he has found that he can sit in the Dicentra Plant, which then wraps around him and the fencing behind shelters him from the wind today. it looks a bit strange - but if it works for him?0 -
GS2 happily went off to school today - promising she would be back for another 'sleepover'. no sign of her! no phone call either, so she is obviously content to be home.
Barnes however, was looking for her at 'hometime'! he just couldn't settle and kept going to the kitchen window (his lookout point). then coming and yowling at me. he was obviously expecting her! and for the last hour he has been prowling the house - looking for her I think.
he must have spent all night in with her as I didn't 'feel' his presence with me at all. (I sleep quite lightly and usually semi-wake when he jumps on or off my bed). Barnes is very taken with the new bedspread I bought for the spare room bed - faux fur fabric in a dark red. and he only really gets to lie on it when GS2 sleeps over on her own. its quite funny the way he jumps on the bed and you can see him pushing his paws into it then rolling around on it, before finally curling up purring his head off. GS2 thinks its solely because she is there - she may be right, but I think its 50% her and 50% bedcover!
I must do some internet shopping for Spot-ons for him - the vets STILL haven't got his usual brand in! its two months now - I will see if I can get them online. and how much the wormers are - I have this suspicion I got ripped off last time. as they doubled the price as far as I can work out. without an itemised receipt its difficult to work out just what they charge - I do ask at the time but forget what they told me.0 -
Its been a beautiful day today - the breeze is a bit chilly though. I wont be casting any clouts unless it warms up another 10 degrees C! Barnes didn't stay out long on his first garden session either ! five minutes and he was back in. His 'little friends' parents have changed their car, and I don't think he has clocked on to it yet! he seems to think that she isn't going to school or coming home! as I have seen the new one coming out of the drive, but Barnes hasn't run to the gate when he hears the engine start or them returning from school.
Barnes got his little 'squeaky mouse' out to play with today - and in the process of 'killing it', he was rabbit kicking it like mad and pulled clumps of fur out of himself in the process! it was all over the carpet like a fluffy cloud!0 -
apologies for no post last night. I had Ava for a sleepover and she didn't settle very well, took hours to get her calm and asleep. her brother and parents were at her brothers 'presentation evening' for the footy club he plays for. he got 'Most Improved Player of the Year'. Awww, he is only 7 and is a football fanatic! problem is I think she rarely sleeps away from home - and she found it hard to settle down. Still we managed it and she finally dropped off about 11.pm. by which time I was exhausted.
OH is on call and had one at 4.30am! woke us both up and Ava started fussing, so I got up to make her a bottle (reliably informed this will settle her back down again), and while I was making the bottle she drifted back off to sleep and I WOKE up! no going back to bed for me. little bu99er then slept til 9.30am! oh well, at least I got some knitting done and learned what early morning tv is like (Dire).
Barnes got to see the sun come up from outside! it was quite warm for a change and he was out ages!
He isn't allowed in the babies bedroom much to his annoyance - and I am not really sure where he spent the night - probably on settee back - but he seemed to like the early morning out in the garden.
except he was eating the hostas again - I had to get OH to move them to front garden - doesn't he KNOW they are toxic? honestly, he munches them down and has done more damage to them than the slugs ever did! I did tell him if he wanted salad there is lettuce in the fridge!
Tonight he has kids to sleep with, the three grandgirls are sleeping over, and they are well used to sleeping with cats and love Barnes to sleep with them. so he is happy now!0 -
Barnes must be feeling spoilt this weekend! the grandgirls slept over last night! and he is allowed to sleep with them. in fact, they encourage him to. So of course, being mindful of his duties, he 'took them to bed', lay down quietly for 'meditation', and stayed with them until he felt they were all deeply asleep.
He got a lovely groom and treats with grandgirl C today while I was doing Sunday lunch. as usual the Dreamies bag was seriously depleted. she thinks its funny if he catches them or just gobbles them up - so keeps on feeding them Dreamies! I don't mind - he is rationed during the week so a 'blowout' on Sundays isn't going to make him overweight.
just one thing - grandgirl K had a bath and hairwash and I dried her hair - and totally forgot to boobytrap the bath! and yes the little sod took advantage and pooed in the bath! So the habit isn't broken - I doubt it ever will be.0 -
well, Barnes had a quiet day - so did I. Slept rather late - gone 9 when we got up! Barnes goes to the gate and sits there for a few minutes....realises he has missed the little girl and comes back in for breakfast. goes back out as its a lovely morning. I am watching the news and Barnes. nice - very relaxing. pick up my knitting and crack on with that. Barnes seems to be searching the garden? put knitting down and watch him - he keeps going back to where the pot with the hosta in was. then branching off and sniffing - for chrissakes does he think he is a 'sniffer dog'? I am trying not to laugh - I had OH take it round the front as he was decimating it! but, yes, he is looking for it - and he decides to eat the dying crocus leaves instead! What is it with Barnes and Greenery? never known a cat eat salad.
Atrix called in after lunch - but Barnes was curled up on settee back having a siesta - so poor Atrix got ignored! and when Atrix stroked him he got squeeked at most indignantly! which makes me laugh too - he sounds like a 'dog toy'!0 -
What have we done today? well, not a lot! its Tuesday, so Barnes rather expected the grandgirls to arrive at 4ish - but, its half-term so no grandgirls. One disappointed cat!
lovely day again, Barnes in and out - mostly out. He has accepted the loss of his Hosta I think. at least he wasn't looking for it. OH planted a couple of lavender plants in a gap - I had put bulbs in but there was no sign of them - found out why, they were busy burying themselves deeper! put them two inches deep and OH found them at SIX inches deep. as they had started to grow he replanted them - whether they will like living under lavender plants remains to be seen. OH forgets sometimes that plants tend to get bigger.0 -
Sorry - no post last night. I started reading this brilliant book by Tania Carver and I couldn't put it down! Its called Truth or Dare. its a Psychological thriller and as Psych is my subject its got me hooked! I haven't finished it yet - rare for me as I can read a book a day. OH is on holiday so that means frequent trips to B&Q. Shopping (honestly - he enjoys shopping - I don't), and he likes to make a mess 'tidying up'.
Yesterday we went shopping in What - he was looking for plants and I was mesmerised by the Solar Butterflies they had all over the garden centre. I thought 'I MUST get one of those for Barnes'. they were only a pound so I got two. and sure enough Barnes finds them interesting too - for about a minute, if he goes out when the sun is shining or the breeze is blowing and they are 'dancing about' on their wire. Once he catches it he loses interest. until the next time he goes out. I don't normally like 'garden ornaments' but love these!
we go over to homebargains and they have the packs of sheba mini meals he likes - so stock up on those.
so hardly seen Barnes today - spent so much time shopping! and we did a weekly food shop too! I dread to think what he has in mind for tomorrow. OH I mean, not Barnes!0
