Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

right there nonnie - I was induced on my last one and believe me - it wasn't a barrel of laffs! except when the doctor was about to break my waters and brandished what looked like a giant 'crochet hook' and I quipped 'oh, are you going to crochet the baby a hat'? and unlike my other two natural labours - even the first 'twinge' became excrutiating pain because you are expecting it.
lol - on my second I was having pains all night which I put down to eating Chinese takeaway for supper (I had a craving for chicken chow mien and the family all swore the baby would come out speaking Chinese! I had it nearly every night!) and it wasn't until I wanted to bear down I realised I was in labour! it was so funny how my OH panicked! my poor DD got dropped off at mums in her nighty and wellies, I forgot my 'bag', and the baffler dropped off the exhaust of the car as we were going out of our street! we got stopped by the cops and OH was saying '!!!!!! the exhaust, my wifes in labour' to a cynical cop when my waters broke! and the cop said 'OK' carry on but don't speed! I was laughing my head off, OH was swearing and then we realised we hadn't phoned the hospital! OH wanted to stop at a phone box - but I was sure we didn't have time ...............and twenty minutes after getting to the hospital DS2 was born! just made it!
naturally I haven't told DIL this - I used to hate the 'birth horror stories' people told me!0 -
Nope she hasn't had it yet! tomorrow - fingers crossed!
its been the most glorious day here - Sunshine all day! and Barnes has really enjoyed it! The decking warms up nicely when its dry and sunny and Barnes has been out - soaking it up!
he has popped back in, now and then, to check I am ok - but quickly went back out again!
grooming him today I noticed his coat is getting much thicker than before...........I think it's because he has spent so much time outdoors. I do keep the house rather warm because I feel the cold. and there is a limit on how many sweaters and cardies you can wear at one time!
Barnes did the 'back or front of Meri'? again last night - started to get on my nerves as he couldn't make up his mind whether he wanted to cuddle into my back or my front. I wouldn't mind, if he didn't trample all over me getting from one place to another! I hissed at him in the end and he decided the windowsill was as good a place as any!lol0 -
That certainly wasn't a birth that you would forget! My second was definitely faster than my first....made it to hospital with 1 hour to spare so not as quick as you but my biggest problem was my poor mother thought I would give birth on the floor as dh didn't see the rush and just took his sweet time, in fairness dd had been a 42 hour labour compared to this ending up being 4 hours. Isn't it funny how no matter how long ago it is you can still recall so much of it, doubt my dh would remember it quite so well though!
Will be thinking of you and your dd in law tomorrow, looking forward to hearing how it all goes xx0 -
rofl nonnie! no, we don't forget! just remind me, how did we ever agree to more than one though?0

Can so easily envisage Barnes glaring at you from his thrown (aka the pouffe) as you move him and put him back
Hope all goes well for your DIL tomorrow0 -
lol - oh I got his worst 'Glare' oldestgnome! and he clung on to the pouffe lid as I lifted it off the pouffe and put it on the floor - then off the floor and back on the pouffe! then he went back to sleep!
Thanks for your good wishes for DIL. I am very fond of her - she is a lovely girl.
I have decided to make chicken in red wine for tomorrow nights supper for them - and if it isn't needed, it will keep for the next night in their fridge. They come out of hospital so soon after having a baby - and I think they should rest more! so I like to help by taking care of meals for them for a week or so.0 -
That's a lovely thing to do to help them, wish you were my mother in law cos I've got a belter!:eek:0

Well today hasn't exactly been a 'red letter day'. still no grandbaby! DIL isn't even having a 'twinge'?
it was my cousins funeral this morning - very sad, but it was nice catching up with some of my other cousins - the ones I only ever see at funerals or weddings. but, its shocking that it gets to be less and less of them each time. but at my age its only to be expected I suppose - they ARE all older than me. and learning that one I am particularly fond of is in a very bad way. trouble is - the hospital he is in is about 3 hours away - but the good news is that we holiday near there in a friends caravan -- so if we can borrow it overnight I will definitely go visit - not sure I can face a 6 hour round trip in one day.
I hate funerals at the best of times and knew that cousin felt the same. so a beautiful woven Bamboo casket, no 'wake' afterward - which is exactly what I expected! he always hated feeling he had missed out on something! and I can just hear him saying 'I am NOT bluddy paying for a party I wont be at!' besides which, the air fare for his wife to return to Thailand with half his ashes is gonna be an arm and a leg. I have never been so long at a crematorium service - they must have booked three slots! it was nice though and the minister (which I was surprised at as I knew his views on religion - but apparently his wifes dad is a minister) did a lovely Eulogy.
came home and made a sandwich for my lunch and the phone went twice while eating it - and I put it on the floor.................and yes - Barnes nicked the corned beef out of it! lol I should've known better!
Picked grandson up from school and we haven't long returned from taking him down the hospital to see his mum. as she isn't in labour Son has returned home and will take GS to school in the morning (providing there aren't any 'developments' during the night!)
tbh - I feel exhausted - emotionally wrung out.0 -
Jings what a day, no wonder your exhausted!
That would be great if you could use the caravan, 6 hour drive is way too much and this way you won't be watching the clock while your at the hospital.
Funerals are really sad so it's nice to know that he got exactly what he wanted, my brother said that he did the funeral of a 90 something year old man and he had pre ordered his own coffin which was hand painted all over with Peter pan...he said that he never really grew up and it was what he wanted, it really lifted everyone's spirits on the day.
That's such a shame about you dd in law, babies are really stubborn sometimes lol, hope you get a good nights sleep tonight xx0 -
Thanks nonnie - he arranged it with the funeral directors back in September. which is exactly what I intend to do if I get 'advance notice'. otherwise, my kids know what I want, and my will states briefly a 'humanist funeral'.
oh I love the 'Peter Pan' coffin idea! its one of my favourite books from my childhood.
I am willing to spring for a wake though - it will give family a chance to 'get together'. and I WANT a joyful send off! I rather think they may be surprised by my music choices - being a Heavy Metal Fan! rofl!
sorry - rambling on,!0
