Grandcat having extended 'sleepover'!

Still no grandbaby! DIL is rather fed up and let drop that she wants to call the baby 'Ava'. at least I hope its spelt that way - cos I haven't a clue as to the 'alternative' Irish spelling which I think is something like Aifhe? rofl - no that doesn't look right!
Barnes has been a very good cat today! its been nice (well, for November) and just warm enough to leave the French door open enough for him to go in and out. He did have a panic moment when the Skip lorry went up the back lane (he is terrified of them), but once it left he judged it safe to go back out!
and we played 'catchthedreamies' and 'pingponguppastairs'! and he restrained himself from destroying another kicktoy. he rejected it after a minute for a 'Catnip mouse' he hasn't played with much.
normally during G&T he allows me to groom his face for just a few seconds - today he sat there almost 'trancelike'. purring like mad. and let me groom his face for almost a minute - and I was allowed to carry on combing him after the dreamies ran out! OH Wonder of Wonders - he now ENJOYS grooming! instead of being bribed to accept it! Its only taken a year or so!
I never thought I would have that much patience! but, its paid off!
from grooming sessions lasting just a couple of minutes - we had a ten minute grooming session today - and he looked very gorgeous at the end of it. hmmmmm - I wonder if this is for 'You's' benefit - he did go straight out and sit right where she would see him. and stayed there for a good five minutes. even though the breeze was ruffling his coat.0 -
Sorry I didn't reply to last nights post....no it wasn't awful of you at all! When someone has been ill I think relief for them is the most selfless thought you can have whereas a new baby coming is so very precious it's only natural for you to be concerned that everything will be ok.
Ava is a lovely name and I'm sure it won't be too long till you get to meet this gorgeous wee new granddaughter!
They do say that cats choose their slaves oops sorry owners, and I defintely think Barnes chose you, it's just lovely how attached you both are to each other0 -
i think it's spelt Aoife.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500

Thanks! that looks right to me! I like the name - makes me think of the Hollywood star Ava Gardner. a real beauty!:A
That's ok Nonnie! thanks for the kind reply. yes there was a measure of 'at least he isn't still lingering on in pain' coupled with 'thank god DIL and baby are ok'!
Baby is staying put - perhaps she is going for a particular 'date' for her birthday?lol0 -
Barnes was kept in all morning by the rain - he kept sitting hopefully by the French doors waiting for it to stop! I think he has now realised that I am not really in charge of the weather! pity, it felt so powerful! he is still wonderful at predicting rain though - if he dashes in - sure enough it rains a couple of minutes later! (OR a skip lorry comes up the back lane)
more games of catchthedreamies - funds allow now, so I am hoping to pop over town Saturday and get the microcard for the tablet. then film him and upload 'somewhere'. Youtube maybe? because when he is 'in the mood' he is getting really good at catching them in his mouth or between his paws - and its quite funny when he misses them, inadvertently hides them under his paws or body and looks everywhere for them!
had to stop knitting this morning - given myself RSI! honestly, my wrist feels sprained and has swollen! I am NOT going to A&E - would feel such an idiot saying I did it knitting! its strange, but its not the wrist that has been doing the work - its my left wrist and I am right handed. I must be holding the work wrongly............after all these years (been knitting about 50 years now), I am doing it wrong!
I have FIVE lovely matinee sets ready for the buttons to sew on though - so when in town on Saturday I shall get those, and some ribbon for threading through the Bonnets, mittens and bootees.
I am so looking forward to meeting the baby - and cant wait to see if she is a 'ginge' like her brother and mum! her brother has exactly the same colour hair as Barney - which he thinks is 'cool'!0 -
Oh dear that sounds painful, does ice help or is it a case of keeping it till it gets better?
I think Barnes would become quite famous on YouTube - definitely worth giving it a go!
All that knitting sounds just lovely, there is nothing nicer than a wee new baby in beautiful handknitted sets xx0 -
I haven't done any knitting today - but OH has the day off so we have been out for most of it. not been raining, so while we have been in - Barnes has been OUT! wrist is ok unless I try to pick something up! got myself a wrist support - will try that tomorrow after sewing all the buttons on!
I don't think Barnes likes CiN. he is laying on settee back with his paws covering his eyes!
just taken grandgirls to bed - and Barnes doesn't seem to have realised it! he is still on settee back - normally he has sneaked into the bedroom and is hiding behind the curtains waiting for me to go back downstairs before joining the kids in bed!
lol - I bet he wont be long before he realises they aren't in living room!
nope - no grandbaby yet!
Edit - just went to the bathroom, got back downstairs, and Barnes passed me at top speed! rofl - he is now cuddled up with the girls!0 -
sorry no post last night - I was dropping off watching 'Strictly' and went to bed as soon as they stopped dancing! for some reason was tired as hell yesterday!
no grandbaby yet! poor DIL has just had a second 'Sweep' and she reports feeling 'uncomfortable' (I wonder why?). my own personal feeling is to leave the poor girl alone! a week or even two is not uncommon! I was induced at 'two weeks over' and the baby was covered in vernix! he was actually at 36 or 37 weeks. - its NOT an exact science.
~Barnes had the grandgirls do his G&T today. K had great fun tossing him Dreamies! which he sat and waited for ......................if they came near him he made an effort to catch them. if they didn't he just looked at her and waited for some to come near.
and we were out this afternoon, and Barnes has been 'close' to OH since. Last night he was cuddled up with me - its getting colder now and I wonder if Barnes feels it too? He did spend a good half hour watching out of the bedroom window, then came onto the bed and cuddled up against my back. after checking I was ok and licking my forehead!!!!!!!!!!!! he hasn't done that before! he touched his nose to mine first too. then trampled up and down me and finally settled down against my back. then changed his mind, and stepped over me and settled down against my front! and just as I was dropping off - got up and sneezed and jumped off the bed, and out of the room!
I woke up with him curled against my front though - and he greeted me affably, but declined to get up as it was too early for him!0 -
still no grandbaby - she is now booked in to be induced on Wednesday.
Bless her - she just looked massive yesterday and the baby has definitely dropped down. Perhaps I should have made them a curry and not a stew on Saturday? Might have helped! just thinking what I can make to help them out with some meals over the next week...............hmmmmm.
Wrist is a lot better - the support is helping and the two sticks I shove down it reminds me NOT to bend my wrist when knitting! I have completed the little jacket I was doing when RSI struck!
Barnes has had a nice day - he has 'appropriated' the leather look 'pouffe' I bought last week to store knitting in - he loves to curl up on it. bit of a pain when I need to get something out of it though. he was rather startled when I just lifted him and the lid off! he stayed put though - just gave me 'The Glare' when I put him back!rofl.
I forgot to get his spot on for today! completely slipped my mind! even though its written in Capitals on the calendar! no matter - the vets is less than a minutes drive from the grandgirls house - so they will be dropped off a little early and I shall get some tomorrow. doesn't seem to be any fleas on him - so hopefully a day or two wont matter too much!0 -
I hope she goes into labour by herself, not so nice getting induced or did that happen the last time?
Glad your wrist is a bit better, it needs to be better to hold the new baby! xx0
