Made a planned visit to my daughter at the weekend and I was in bits all the way home. Still cant' go into her bedroom. I know im being daft, but she was my youngest. I haven't been brave enough to try skype with her yet.0 -

I'm working up to sorting out her bedroom! My friend said her DD bedroom looked so empty, DD room looks like a bomb has hit it but it should keep me occupied this weekend.:rotfl:
DD my only child and it's strange just being the 2 of us now after being a trio for so long.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

DD surprised us with a visit today, 90 min train journey all planned last night while drunk apparently. She did inform us she wasn't home sick and that she couldn't wait to get back to uni tonight .I think there is going to be quite a few of these surprise visits. If it has tyres or testicles, it's gonna give ya problems..

Hi....Finding all these posts really interesting as this time next year it will be my eldest DD off to university.
Wondering though, has anyone any experience of getting a child to uni by train? Bearing in mind the amount of stuff they take with them, how on earth am I supposed to get her there when I don't drive?:)
I just sent mine by plane then train with one suitcase. When he arrived all his boxes sent by unibaggage were waiting for him in the mailroom. The uni had porters bring them up to his room on the second floor of his house which was great. I had had visions of him unpacking in the mail room and carrying it bit by bit iyswim. He was totally sorted in under 2 hours and off to explore. Pictures of his room show it very tidy and he apparently is the only one trying to cook in an all boys house. What has happened to my son!!! He is already being referred to as the old man because he is complaining about mess! He was disgusted by the lad using one of two shared sinks to soak his undies and the rule now is that the other sink is totally out of bounds for this activity. But who who sends their son away with only 4 pairs of boxers  Mine has a washing up bowl thanks to this forum so I told him to encourage this boy and others in the house to do likewise. Is it just me or yuk!!0 -

I have to pay flight, train and accomodation and meals which is why he went happily on his own!!0 -
Yesterday was moving in day and it all went incredibly well. DS's flat is very smart, much bigger than it looked in the pictures and she's sharing with 4 others (2 boys, 2 girls though we only met one yesterday). The whole thing was incredibly well organised with lots of helpers around so the actual unloading of the car & moving in was sorted in less than an hour. It looks like we guessed correctly on what she needed, the only thing we brought back with us was a bin (she wasn't sure if she'd have one in her room or not). We spent a couple of hours with her exploring the halls and the campus, and she was smiling when we left. I held it together until we got home (I was driving) but as soon as I walked in the door I started howling. DS disappeared for a few minutes and I found him sitting on the floor in her empty room crying his eyes out.:( But she was all over FB last night so we were swapping messages, she seems very happy and excited and I take great comfort in that. Hopefully we'll get to talk later today (if she's not too busy!)£2 Savers Club 2016 #21 £14/£250

I'm glad she's happy Hezza
Maybe our two are at the same uni?
We had a very similar experience when we took son yesterday. I felt happy leaving him with his flatmate in lovely surroundings.
I hated the empty house when we got home last night though.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
