My daughter went on the 13th. I was dreading it,especially the point of departure. She was just so happy, and I suddenly felt she was in the right place at the right time and ready for it..I didn't shed a tear. Yes the house is quieter, but she's kept in touch via texts and Skype every so often. So far ,so good :)
  • I have a sneaky suspicion that the one of my three who pays me the least amount of attention when she is at home, is going to be the one keeping in the most contact now she is away. I had a text late last night and woke up with a start wondering what was the matter. It turned out just to be a text to tell me she had tidied her room. A thing worthy of her great announcement because she very rarely tidies at home.:rotfl:

We packed the car up with inches to spare and decanted into the room. The bedroom is small but two boxes have fitted under the bed, two on top of the wardrobe and one on the headboard cupboard. The kitchen is quite generous for 5 of them with a large f/f and a second fridge.

We had lunch and left. DD seemed okay. Sharing with 2 girls and 2 boys and they all seem nice.

I'm eating chocolate and contemplating wine!

We dropped DD off at Uni today - we managed to get everything in the car - just! We had older students helping unpack, but still took us ages too get her room sorted out. I didn't cry when we left her, but it was a close call, even her Dad choked a bit. We are back home now and we are absolutely exhausted - time for a well earned class of wine :-)
  • Dropped DD off yesterday, managed to fit everything into her small room.
We stayed for lunch and then said our goodbyes, quite tearfull.
Logged on facebook a couple of hours later and she had put a pic of her room on and it a bloody tip! i was only gone a few hours!

We all did the stiff upper lip too and no tears, well not until I got back in car and then I randomly cried throughout the journey home!:o

DD doesn't like to show tears in public ever so I had to be strong as her flat mates were there. At home though she's different and when her best friends called yesterday to say goodbye she shed some tears after they left.

We have had a lovely week though, well in between the rows over lack of preparation and packing. She's been inundated with gifts, small and big, had a few meals out with family, a final night out in town with the girls and she even came to the cinema with me! So glad I booked the week off work.

Her timetable seems to leave her free from midday weds to Fri 9am so she could pop home in a few weeks hopefully as we are only 90 miles away.

Next task is to clean her room up!

  • Just been cleaning up my DD's room and have found the school socks she kept moaning she couldn't find. If she had kept the room clean enough to access the wardrobe properly she would have found them in the box with the huge supply of tights she seems to have.

Well apart from food DD is all set, managed to pick up everything else we needed yesterday (Sunday) via Sainsbugs, Argos & Dunhelm. Thank you all so so much for all the hints & tips, it kept me focused when my head would otherwise have been all over the place. DD is moving in this Sunday so still has a few days left to get organised & packed. Most of her friends have already gone but she still has some goodbye's to say this week. I choke up every time I think about it but I'm hoping that we'll all be too busy getting her sorted on Sunday for too many tears. Famous last words! I feel a mixture of sadness at her leaving and excitement at this new chapter in her life. I just hope I can hold it together long enough, DS is getting quite tearful as well and I need to be strong for him. The two of them are as thick as thieves and he may find it hard to adjust. Thank god for Skype & Google Hangouts!
