For those that cannot be bothered to read the link, 10832 men in prison for sexual offences as opposed to 103 women.
Happy to provide more links for those demanding statistical evidence for what is generally a well known fact.
Disclaimer: I am not by providing said empirical evidence suggesting that all men are abusers/people need to keep their children indoors due to risk from asteroids.0 -
Really, you were under the impression sexism didn't exist? Or does it only count when it's directed towards males

I am sure sexism does exist, but we perhaps move in different circles, as I do not know of any person or business who would openly discriminate against someone purely on their sex.
There are significant penalties if a business decided not to employ a male childminder based on your 'statistical' argument!0 -

.
Thank you. I'll read the document properly when I get home.
Were all of those offenses against children?
I wonder whether more men are actually offending or whether they just get caught and sentenced more often.........
Men are more likely than women to be prosecuted for domestic violence - that doesn't mean that women aren't attacking their partners.
Biologically men are wired to like youth - obviously when that goes as far as pre-pubescent children there's something wrong. But I wonder whether that's why more offenders appear to be men.....?Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

And rightly so.
Just out of interest, what circles are you suggesting I move in?0 -
Ahhhh I would LOVE a male childminder for my little chap! All good advice in this thread - think it depends on what you backed yourself up with qualifications-wise etc, but I would so go for it if there were enough indications he was ace - just as I would look for enough indications from a female. Marketing yourself might be tough though. Maybe just emphasising the plus points of your ability rather than making a big thing of your gender?0

Men are over-represented in ALL areas of sexual abuse, whether that be against children, adult males or adult females.
Males are also statistically more likely to commit domestic abuse. Like I have said before though that doesn't mean to say women cannot be abusers, sexual or otherwise.
What feminists such as myself take offence at is the implication that women are JUST AS LIKELY to commit these crimes as males, which is just not the case. Hence my original post in response to those citing people like Myra Hindley to try to assert that argument.
Admittedly, there is a problem with statistics in that males are much less likely to report sexual/violent crimes committed by women, however, in my opinion, even when taking that into consideration the evidence is overwhelming.
You only need to look at how many women die every week as a result of domestic violence as opposed to men.
Anyway, I am drifting way into OT territory....0 -
I don't expect you to be clairvoyant - I stated my history in my first post. You picked out my comments about statistics but chose to ignore the rest of my post.
Amus - I agree - women are much less likely to commit sexual offences and it annoys when people say in discussions about this topic - I'm not prepared to discuss this as you have ignored female abusers. I haven't ignored female abusers (and I was abused by both parents) but men are mainly the perpetrators. Everyone mentions Rose West and Myra Hindley - they make the headlines because it is so unusual that women abuse.
Google Robert Black - one of the country's most dangerous serial child rapists and murderers - you can name the women but did you even know this guy exists.
OP I'm sorry for taking this so off-topic - but it might help you understand people's wariness over men and children.0 -

My eldest had a male teacher at primary school and I worried how he would cope if she needed the lo or help with dressing, stupid really as he managed fine and if anything my dauber preferred him to any other teacher.
Surely by the time your daughter reached primary school she could go to the loo and get dressed herself1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

I consider myself a feminist - as in there's nothing I can't do just because I'm female. If you're coming at this from a feminist perspective, surely you should be wanting women to have equal opportunities to men in all regards, positive and negative..........??Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

You would be amazed, and probably somewhat surprised by the amount of children who cant manage these tasks by themselves, when they start school. The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0
