'Golf quality issues still not resolved'

    Honest John

Yes but reading the above report I can only see they are commenting on the DSG box as an issue, oh, also buying the 1.6TDI as a shopping runabout

Tradepro - you're coming across as hugely arrogant here.

You've accused at least four people of LYING on here, just because their views dont match your biased PERCEPTION of german cars?

Could it be that they're actually telling the truth and that maybe people dont care as much about winning an argument on the internet as you do?

The only person I have accused of 'lying' is Vaio, and only in this one instance.

He's had to under the circumstances, and I don't hold it against him.

And you are wrong to use the word perception in capital letters like that - I'm sure I have said before I have been a VAG Aftersales Manager, it's first hand knowledge and experience, not perception.

No, that's not it - did you not click on the 'what's bad' link?

Few cars on the market give significant trouble over the first few years (unless you buy a lemon, and that's luck of the draw

It's really not like that in real life Jase.

On the other hand, we've never had a problem with VAG stuff

we've had was a couple of engine management lights on

What I meant, was we've had nothing major go wrong with them yet.

Are you sure you're not lying??

Well, 'lying' is a very strong word, but we are definitely ignoring the fact that these 'premium' cars are troublesome.

When an engine management light comes on, it's because something has gone wrong - usually at minimum a sensor will need to be replaced.

The only real exceptions being the VW and Kia/Hyundai engines

You're half right with this mate - everyone really needs to stop believing that VW's are good.

Just came across this over on pistonheads.. 3 year old mazda diesel, turbo blown.

    http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=23&t=1318712&mid=101804&nmt=Mazda+3+Turbo+blown%21%21

Presumably he is lying about this and its really an Audi hes got but hes posted just so i can pick up the thread and post it on here?

EDIT : its actually quite common if you google mazda turbo failure.

Seriously - the lengths these guys have went to just to make it *look* like Mazdas are unreliable. Some of their threads go back years.

Do you think its a global conspiracy and they all lying too?

Do you suspect they're really talking about an Audi?

In the interests of fair play, I will respond to this one too.

I am not doubting that there will be a broken Japanese car here and there, although as others have said, it will usually be when they borrow something from another country, such as this Ford engine.

What annoys me most about VAG and their fans is how they are perceived to be so good, and people pay sill money for them. VW/Audi cars are sincerely on a par with French cars (in terms of component quality/durability - I know they have posher cabins), but due to past reputations, many members of the public see them as poles apart.

I'll add my own experiences, the BMW's were great to drive with good dealers (shame they went to runflats or I'd still be having them). Jap cars tended to be brought with an accountants perspective but they never really cost any mor than routine maintenance. Its not likely I'd pick a Lexus again based purely on the dealer experience (it was the worst by a long way) Audi even with the electrical gremlins I'd pick one tomorrow if they weren't so big.

5x BMW 3's 2 were faultless in my ownership, 1 was a complete lemon, 2 were prone to faults.

    1xToyota reliable but boring

    1xHonda ditto

1x Mazda great car and good fun but should be it was an MX5

1x Audi A5 lots of electrical niggles but a lovely car and I'd have one again tomorrow

1x Lexus, nice car shame about the dealer!

My view you pays your money and takes your choice. No such thing as a really bad car nowadays, but some do have issues and its how the dealers react that matters

That's not something you hear very often, their dealers usually get raved about don't they? Sorry to hear you were unlucky in that respect.
