To be fair, there are plenty of other manufacturer dealerships and car traders that'll try and do exactly the same thing.

But none are superior to the Mercedes dealers, every one an Arfer

The arrogance of the VAG (and other German) dealer never ceases to amaze, but even more amazing is that people are really prepared to be treated like this.

Even before you've laid eyes on a car they are relieving your wallet of large sums for the privelidge of being allowed to view it, i'd have two short words for them the second one being 'off '.

No i don't own a VAG car, and i never will.

I've owned nothing but uber reliable Audis for the last 25+ years and likely will continue to do so but I wouldn't dream of paying a deposit before viewing a car

Do people lie about these cars deliberately, or just convince themselves that the premium price was money well spent?

Nothing personal Vaio, it's kind of a hobby of mine 'mythbusting' German cars...

Congratulations! We finally have a thread about a fault on a Japanese car, the last 500 have been focused on German motors...

I exaggerate slightly, but c'mon, are you really trying to say that an Audi is a safer proposition than a Toyota?? I have NEVER yet happened upon an Audi that hasn't at least had warning light issues, often much much worse - they're terrible cars.

They may well be a 'safer' bet in terms of reliability but thats not most peoples primary buying decision. They buy the car because they like the car.

Toyotas cars tend to be as Dull as Dishwater. Its that long since they made a decent desirable car that they had to get into bed with Subaru otherwise no doubt they'd have made another Toyota Paseo  - remember those? Thought not.

Lets be honest a Ferrari would no doubt be a pig of a thing to do 20,000 miles a year in in terms of reliability, but that doesnt stop people wanting / buying one does it?

Just got a late '12 Golf from the local VW dealer. Car was the cheapest within a 80 mile radius, and also the youngest (Oct 12 when most were Apr 12) and that included non franchised dealers. No hard sell, no "add ons" forced down my throat (barely even mentioned), and after the deal was done and dusted the sales guy mentioned he was fitting mats and flaps to the car at no extra cost. Also taxed it for a year in the price.

    Couldnt have been nicer.

On the other hand, we've never had a problem with VAG stuff, and around 60 of our 400ish vehicle fleet is VAG, ranging from Polos as general office cars, to 18 Superbs and 6 Transporter Shuttles at taxis and Passats as management cars for our other company. We've just taken the first set of 5 Crafters and 2 6 seat Transporters as band buses, all factory converted in a specialist spec, and all of which seem well screwed together.

I personally (as a personal car) wouldn't stray from Jaguar Land Rover now, but that's a personal choice, and I'd happily have an Audi A6/A8, if I could get the right deals on it, which aren't available at the moment.

You've used this point on the subject before Paul, but I can't agree with it's validity to be honest.

Is an A3 better to drive than a Focus? (I am aware that a Focus isn't a Toyota, I am merely questioning why people pay the extra for an unreliable Audi when there are cheaper, better cars out there).

Many German cars are dull, of course RS and M models aren't, but neither are Lexus LFA's or Nissan GT-R's.
