What does the reference to the cup mean?
Closest I can describe it as is 'suffering'.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
This is a very easy trick, it's one of the most common miracle-healer-showman effects there is. The tricky bit is convincing everyone that the person's legs really were of different lengths to begin with.
Yes -I remembered this as well. I just asked my son who I know watched something about it with me and he said Derren Brown did a show on this.

I much prefer the liberal tea and cake side of the bible.
One who blasphemes the name of the LORD shall be put to death; the whole congregation shall stone the blasphemer. Aliens as well as citizens, when they blaspheme the Name, shall be put to death.
Leviticus 24:16
If a man commits adultery with another man's wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.
Leviticus 20:10
You have six days each week for your ordinary work, but the seventh day must be a Sabbath day of complete rest, a holy day dedicated to the LORD. Anyone who works on that day must be put to death.
Exodus 35:2
If any man takes a wife, and goes in to her, and detests her, and charges her with shameful conduct, and brings a bad name on her, and says, ‘I took this woman, and when I came to her I found she was not a virgin,’ … and evidences of virginity are not found for the young woman, then they shall bring out the young woman to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her to death with stones
Deuteronomy 22:13-14,20-21
Then Judah said to Onan, “Go in to your brother’s wife and perform the duty of a brother-in-law to her; raise up offspring for your brother.” But since Onan knew that the offspring would not be his, he spilled his semen on the ground whenever he went in to his brother’s wife, so that he would not give offspring to his brother. What he did was displeasing in the sight of the LORD, and he put him to death also.
Genesis 38:6-10
Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves.
Leviticus 25:44
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent.
1 Timothy 2:11-12
If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.
Leviticus 20:13
A good old fashioned bit of killing, misogyny, homophobia and slave trading!0 -
So to suffer will result in our prayers coming true?
You will note that the answer to Jesus' prayer (at least in the short term) was NO.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

It's the ranting that spoils the thread, not the discussion.
This board would be really dull without a bit of ranting.
Of course, there are people who will describe any posts they don't like as 'ranting' or 'insulting' or 'off topic' or 'missing the point' etc etc. in order to dismiss them, rather than address the points raised in them.0 -
What does the reference to the cup mean?
AFAIK, it refers to the symbolic 'cup of the wrath of God' from the Old Testament, when, once people had drunk from it, it was removed and they could enjoy God's blessing.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

I think if anything the bible is anti slavery.0 -
So to suffer will result in our prayers coming true?
Basically the purpose of pain is to prepare us to receive something radically beautiful from God.
Sometimes pain and suffering is used as a way back to God.
Whether that is an answer to your prayer or something completely different is down to God.
Incidently all suffering isn't from God (cant remember the scripture to back this up) its down to Satan but God allows it.
A book for you to read.
