It was last serviced by the previous owner, can't recall when. I got the car in March. It was before that!

When did you last have it serviced ?

Might you have got water in the points ?

    Points?

You must be old, cars have not had points for years.

Could be an engine mount. Does it shake if you just rev it up without actually moving along?

Nope. Only when it moves. And I tried it out again on the way back from work and it was soooo hard to tell what made it better and what made it worse. It seemed to be happiest at 30 in 5th (but still juddering) but like I said in the first post it's awful when it gets to 50mph and gets better again at 70.

    Arg so weird! D:

Rather than keep driving it till something falls off or you have an accident.

I would suggest taking it to a garage.

It's almost certainly an engine misfire, suggest get it checked sooner rather than later. Last thing you want is it to stall as you pull out of a junction etc

Unless you want to damage something else too, stop driving at 30 mph in 5th gear. In fact follow GAZ237's adivce and stop driving it completely unless it is to take it to a garage.

It won't have points but the water suggestion is still valid. Water in / around igition components can affect all cars, not just the real oldies. Once it gets in there it can also take days to dry out on its own.

If your weather's been anything like ours the past few days it's worth spraying all the ignition system (leads, coil pack etc, didtributor cap if fitted etc) with a water displacement spray (WD40 or similar) before paying to have it diagnosed.

I very much doubt if this is the problem but you say you drove in a bad storm just wondering if you've got water in the air filter and god forbid its bent a con rod slightly you don't say wether its petrol or diesil petrol I'd say could be coil pack or injector
  • I have WD40 - where should I NOT spray it? Anywhere? Or is it fine to guess? :P

I drove in horrendous storms. The worst I've seen in this country. And spray got under my car more to it usually would. I dont think my car has been properly dry for weeks with the humidity we had before. Could that really be it?

    My car is petrol btw.
