The plusnet email came to me the other day at a very useful time - I'm currently looking at moving to SIM only when my contract ends (I've already moved to the iPhone upgrade plan). The plusnet deal offered as an existing customer (and possibly to new...) of unlimited text / calls and 4GB of data for £10 a month is PERFECT for me, and better value than Giff Gaff.

Also being on EE currently, I know where I can get signal etc. I'm hopeful that visual voicemail will be available to plusnet, but haven't looked into this yet.

this is what I'm thinking of taking. My sim only ends 2nd jan and the plusnegt offer needs to be taken up by 13th jan, so it falls nicely into my timing and is better than the sim I'm currently on.

Where did you see that about needing to be taken up by 13 Jan, please?
  • I looked at their section at the bottom of the promo page 'the legal bit'.
    It says this:

Pre-registration Offer: £5 off the £15 plan. £10 a month for 4GB of data, unlimited minutes & texts. SIM only plan on a rolling monthly contract. Offer only available by pre-registering on plusnetmobile.com before 23:59 on 28 November 2016. You must sign up either: online via the link provided in the email you will receive following pre-registering by 13th January 2017; or when we call you following your pre-registration. This price cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Pre-registering does not create an obligation to purchase. Full terms and conditions will be provided in the pre-registration offer sign-up email and when you sign-up online via this email

Just signed up for the Plusnet deal as promoted here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/phones/cheap-sim-only-contracts#toppicks

What is not made clear on the info on the MSE site is that existing Plusnet broadband customers get free DOUBLE data every month, so on the £10 deal that's 8GB per month instead of 4GB. And tethering is allowed.

By way of comparison my existing 3 Mobile deal is no longer competitive by a long shot (unlimited minutes, unlimited texts, 4GB of data, tethering but no 30 day rolling contract).

If your an existing Plusnet customer this is a steal.
  • Also just signed up with plusnet and my old number was due to be ported today but its not happened ): I've been told it could take a few more days due to overwhelming demand... Not a good start.

  • Hi guys, I posted in "Vodafone Retention" thread a while ago, but no answer. Maybe here is more appropriate, as it is Sim Only I wish to enquire about.

Sorry, if my post is rather lengthy.

Can you please give me some strategic advice before I speak with Vodafone regarding an upgrade of Sim only tarrif of mine?

I must have had one for ages, and having read this thread, I really am paying a lot for what I have (£20 p/m/900 min/unlim. Txts/500mb data).

I just bought a new smart phone and may need to use internet on it quite a bit.

Their Red Bundle SIMO best tariff (unlimited everything + 22 GB of data) is now £22 per month, but they say it is already 40% off Xmas deal.

Can I try and get a 50% discount on that given I am a long term customer of theirs?

If anybody has similar SIMO deal, could you explain to me what are Spotify/NowTV ? Just in case I don’t even need such.

When some users wrote earlier that they gotten 3 months free, does this literally mean they won’t charge one for first 3 months?

Does Vodafone still have a retention live chat line?
English is not my first language, and ironically I find it very difficult to negotiate with someone with a foreign accent via phone in call centres.

I live in a remote rural area, Voda has the best coverage, therefore I am really reluctant to leave them.

So I am not even sure if it’s a good idea to speculatively ask for a PAC code if their offers no good?

Many thanks for comments and advice.

Thanks - very frustrating that I'm data hungry, but text and minutes minimal! I think I'm going to give GG a go, one of the attractions is the lack of contract.

Don't know if you've already changed but I've used both O2 and GiffGaff (still on GG) in the last 12 months. O2 gave me 24Mbps download, GG 5.5Mbps from the same location at the same time of day.

I'm a very light user so the £5 goody bag made more sense for me rather than O2's £10 package so it'll depend on your usage.

When you go to your providers live chat request your PAC code mentioning that you have seen a good deal on Plusnets new mobile service (this is your leverage) and that you want to switch, they will probably put you thru to there recontracts/retentions chat at this point.

There retentions agent will probably ask you what deal you have seen, at this point state the current plusnet deals (these are probably the best around atm for sim only) only state the deals that are closest to the data/calls/txts that you are interested in and also mention that plusnets is a 30 day only rolling contract. They at this point will probably counter with the nearest plan that they have to the one you want, if they offer you unlimited minutes yet your usage isn't that high per month ask for a discount on the plan for a cap on minutes, or similar on txts or data, whatever they come up with ask for a cap thats within your usage but at a lower price point, this should secure you a lesser price per month.

I just renewed with O2 sim only for 2gb data and unlimited calls/texts for £8.00 per month using the above strategy, this is £5.30 pm cheaper than i was paying for 500mb and 500 mins previously and is only 50p per month more with unlimited calls/txts than plusnets nearest price plan though i am tied up for a year again.
