I must be very lucky as I have a sim only deal for £6 .50 its 1000 minutes unlimited text and 250 mg. I am with Orange, I cant understand why people pay so much extra for monthly deals.

Cindy, I too was with orange then EE and paid £8 for 250 mins, 250 text, 100 MBE, but reducing to £6 and moving to life mobile, which is associated with EE, I get 1500 mins, unlimited text and 1 gb, your data is only a quarter of my allowance and your minute are fare less too.

    250MB?? :rotfl:

I gather you don't make much use of your phone then? Do you even have a smartphone?

Both myself and my partner use less than 250MB/month.

We keep data turned off and everywhere that we are has free wi-fi. If we're at home we use wi-fi and if we're out there are so many places providing free wi-fi that we hardly have any need for mobile data.

Even if we're on the bus the bus has free wi-fi on it.

My partner has a data allowance of 3GB and I have a data allowance of 200MB.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

200-250MB is pathetic, you may as well not have an allowance and just leave mobile data turned off and only use wifi. At least with a moderate allowance of say 1GB-2GB you don't have to be in fear of an accidental mobile usage that ends up costing £££'s.

220MB-250MB is about 10 minutes of 720p video, or 30 minutes at 480p SD.

Agreed. I don't faff around with wi-fi now that I have enough 4G data, and more often than not the free wi-fi is congested and a lot slower than 4G on my device.

Getting this thread back on track, I've just accepted a new sim-only 12 month contract from Vodafone.

Unlimited mins/texts/5GB data and 2 months free. £8.50 per month. Organised through live chat retentions.

(However, it has taken 2 further live chats and 4 calls to Vodafone to sort the deal out, as someone must have typed a '2' instead of a '5' when formalising the offer - it was showing online as 20% off instead of the 50% off I agreed to. Hopefully sorted now but hassle nonetheless)

DON'T USE VODAFONE! I had a SIM only deal with them, and when I ported my number, they tried to charge me £2,600 in termination charges!!! It has taken me three months and hours of frustration and upset to get them to admit that I owed them nothing. THERE IS NO DEAL, HOWEVER GOOD, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING THAT WOULD INDUCE ME TO USE VODAFONE EVER AGAIN.

Hopeful is a lost cause for Vodafone. I would never hope or assume anything when dealing with them. Get it in writing so that you can enforce it when it doesn't happen or look forward to endless amounts of time getting no-where afterwards.

I have a great rate from Virgin mobile, unlimited 3g data*, minutes and texts for £6.50 for myself and my husband. But I was looking at Three for the roaming and tethering, and because I am unhappy with the drop outs of data in my house, which is very poor even with full bars.

I have a payg sim from Three that I have used abroad for years.

I was offered a deal with two sim contracts £13 each for 4gb data 600 minutes, 12 month contract, or one £13 and one £8 contract with only 500mb data.

I am thinking of using the 12gb payg sim valid for 12 months to£30 supplement the virgin contract when abroad. So that is total cost of £186.

So a Three contract of £8 for each of us would be the same cost, but 500mb on a good 4g connection would lead to additional costs.

    * Unlimited apart from traffic shaping that affects everyone downloading in peak, and a cap after 3.5gb when it drops from 3g to close to dialup. Its never happened to me and I use the allowance to the full.

Would Three consider retention deals in my situation?

Incredible - yesterday they sent me the requested email to say that I owed them nothing, zero, nada: today I get a text saying that my bill is "still overdue". When I rang they couldn't explain it or guarantee that something negative won't then appear on my credit rating. The VODAFONE NIGHTMARE CONTINUES!

Ignore what they say. Keep a close eye on your external credit files.
