I am lucky with my MIL I know..
Sooooo the big news right now is that we had a house offer - whooo!
Only £1k under the asking price and cash buyers, so we've snapped their hands off. Now the search begins for us.. we live rural so there really isn't a massive choice in terms of properties and believe me, we are not fussy in terms of must have this, must have that. We need 3 bedrooms and some sort of garden - ideally a kitchen diner, rather than a lounge / dining room and commutable for us both. Would you believe that has bought us to two properties - two!
One is a quirky cottage, but it's on a bigger road, certainly not a main road, but there would be an increase in traffic compared to what we have now. The second is a bungalow in a bigger hamlet.. which is cheaper that what we are selling ours for.
Will book in to go and see both this week and hopefully get the ball rolling. Not really allowing myself to get excited as we've moved a few times and I now the emotional ups and downs with moving.. but *whispers* - I am a little bit excited.
Money wise, well there is £10k difference between the 2 properties. We could move to both and be either £2k up or £12k up - so food for thought there, we could clear our debt by this house move...
Fingers crossed everything proceeds OK..DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

WOW!! Much excitement for you! I'm so pleased you've got the offer you needed for the house, that must be SUCH a great feeling for you.
I think you are being sensible going to view both houses, make a list of pro's and con's of both before you make any decisions! Although I have to also admit that it would be fabulous for you to move into a new house, and be debt free at the same time, what an amazing fresh start that would be....
Do keep us posted about the house situation - I'm excited for you!!

Wow things are moving fast for you. What fab news with the offer.
Very exciting to think you might possibly be able to write off some or all of your debt. Guess it depends on how much work needs doing on the house. Although if its not too bad, it could be something you do "bit by bit" with the new found spare cash you would have if you were debt free.
Moving house can be a slow process, guess you just have to make sure you are happy with one of these houses and you don't settle for something less than perfect, just to achieve a quick sale and spare cash.
Loads of luck though hun, you deserve to feel abit excited. xxx0 -
Thanks guys for popping in - it's been a manic week.
Sooo, we are proceeding with the first offer, but we did receive a full asking price offer as well, but for the sake of £950 and just feeling it was the right thing to do we stuck with the original offer. Two places to see tomorrow and feeling hopeful.
Money feels like it's flying out the door at the moment, £355 on searches paid out, scary stuff.
We are hopeful of seriously reducing the debt through this process, which still feels a cop out to me in terms of hard work, but I guess the main thing is that it is reduced by however much.
Really excited at the thought of moving house and having a new start.DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

Saw one property, loved it, offered and deal sewn up within the hour. We got it for a steal as well. I was budgeting paying £7k more than we did, so chuffed isn't the word for it. Some of the money we've saved will need to pay for a new bathroom (immediate need) and new heating (winter 2014 need), but apart from that, it's move in straight away. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan.
Apart from that, a quiet day here, one little person a bit off colour, so spent the afternoon administers cuddles. Knackered after a very broken nights sleep from said little person.
Hope everyone had a great Saturday xDFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

So solicitors instructed and I'm drowning under house sale / purchase paperwork, but hopefully everything is well underway now.
We are likely to have about £17k clear after the housemove which is just great. I didn't expect this move to leave us in credit.
I should probably clear the debt with that amount shouldn't I?
Current thinking is that we use approx. £10k of that to do the necessary works to the house, ie bathroom / heating and then potentially pay £5k off the loan and save the rest for emergency funds. But I'm sure that might change and maybe we should just clear the loan, but a functioning bathroom and heating is pretty crucial!
Any thoughts welcome..DFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)
