LIR I was only pulling your leg as I'm sure you realised; I have this habit of being extremely 'irreverant' to those in postions of apparent power, it gets me into no end of trouble at work :)
    I think....

Was that a purposeful HDTV? I just guffawed at the in-joke and can't read more without asking as I'm not sure if that is fir's new name? It made me laugh, anyway :o

That was a purposeful HDTV. ;) it wasn't necessarily referring to fir.

I also call him the Boss sometimes. We have loads of names for each other. :T

These modern wedding cake icing tiles look VERY familiar. :).

I'm not sure about car waxing them like I normally do with tiles.....I think it will be impossible to polish.

It was so etching wasn't it? I expected it to be a bit of nothing, whining really. And to be quite annoyed by it. I didn't expect to cry, or to hate the QC (who is now dead, I googled him) although I already hated the national trust who are well known as Bullies of the worst order in villages and rural environments, so doubted it would be any different in town (the national trust is actually a wonderful idea with some terrible practise IMO, )

It made me a bit.....'what the hell is it all for then?' About everything tbh. It upset me far more than our own frustrations but it has made me wonder how committed I feel to this. We do this in the expectation we have of our future, but were it the other way round, then I don't want to get left here alone.

I only caught the tail end of it. Was the point about the parking:
The NT rents out offices nearby.
Their tenants had been parking in the courtyard for 30 years before the new owners took over and had acquired a right to do so - if you like, by squatting.
Parking in town centres is like gold dust, and presumably NT's ability to rent out their property depended on the parking being available.
Presumably, when the new owners bought, they knew full well that people parked in the courtyard.
I felt sorry for them, but mainly because they were driving themselves mad with the strain, not because they were hard done by. So sad, though, that the husband died young presumably from the strain.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

The Owner's knowledge op at purchase was something I missed. It became clear that there was knowledge of dispute over whether right of leave of ACCESS not parking had been gained over usuage time, but what happened in the end was the NT claimed ownership of just under half the court yard, so they lost a huge part of what I think could be considered a massive asset to the property they believed they had (pedestrian or vehicular right of way over it or otherwise). This is a typical NT tactic...they simply have more money to push legal costs than any individual.. Its exactly how my ex friend land agent would relay things.....we get want we want because we can afford they cannot. They have a habit of demanding things they KNOW aren't theirs by right because they know they can afford the legal fees.

The impression I got from the program as well, that the NT were able to bully them. I think the couple knew it was an ongoing issue, but also thought they could chuck a bit of money at it to go away. The program said it was the mounting and potential further legal fees that made them settle out of court.

I presume there was a good chance of NT winning. The couple wouldn't have had time on their side to prove that the NT hadn't taken adverse possession.

It's frightening to think that someone with enough money and tenacity could snaffle your driveway.

But there was a point when the lady's own lawyers advised them that they were in the wrong. Then, the lady went to the archives and *proved* there was parking in the courtyard before 1980, which just vindicated the NT's case.

I've never got on the wrong side of the NT, but they could be tough. In this case, though, they seem to have been right to prevent the hoteliers' Anschluss.

I never spotted the nasty QC, but he sounds like a pantomime villain. :) He also died early, so nobody came out of this very well.

If you let someone park on your driveway for over 30 years without permission and without your doing anything about it, then indeed you have a problem. However, it's not just a legal problem. You have procrastination issues. :)

How did the job thing go - are you now wearing braces and talking into 3 phones at once?

Told you Isaac had a toddler-fascination with phones.... He looks like an infant 1980s stock trader in this one. It was taken in OH's then Chambers, when Isaac was about 15 months old:

One of the tree here, unknown variety, not the best, but fresh. Full of vitamins, And FRESH!

Apples are the think I'm really struggling to choose for our orchard. I want, romantically, to go for old local varieties, but I wonder if I am more likely to enjoy some of the moderns.

My mother couldn't help you much over quince varities, but she's done a massive amount of research into apple types - when she replanted the orchard, she became a (self-described) "national class bore" on species.
