Hope things are ok NDG xx
To give you some info on me, I am from Outer Herts, Jewish great grandparents, love mushrooms, not a scientist but it is one of my interests, of the lower socio economic status, divorced and a cat owner.
Thanks Sue.
I'm from Outer Herts, AKA central London, no Jewish blood, but a Jewish / Israeli dearly beloved, an 8 year old son, and 12 weeks' pregnant (I hope). Cat owner, but cat is at boarding school, living in rural Kent with my parents. I'm 35 years old, all my own teeth, and think mushrooms are the work of the devil, but adore marmite.
I'm no scientist at all by education or training, but very interested in it, and use spreadsheets only to work out my expenses and VAT....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I think so - still feeling sick <crossed fingers> and going for my scan later. Sam's taken Isaac out of the way, to have his hair cut and then to the Museum of London, for a few hours, in case it's not the best of news....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Wasted 10 mins of my life reading you lot waffling about burgers.
I don't eat red meat or burgers. Aside from the veggies (wheezy? Zag?) am I alone in that? It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Fingers crossed for a good day in the NDG house!:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

It was the 'gourmet' hot dog bit that I really didn't get.
WE eat mince every couple of weeks (though have started doing it half and half with quorn) and also stir fry pork chops/steaks - I have never known if they count properly as red meat or not. Is all red meat bad for you or is a couple of times a month OK? I worry that excluding it altogther might mean the kids don't get enough iron?I think....0 -

I was vegetarian for a while when I was a kid and though I ate lots of iron rich other stuff I still because anaemic (I didn't supplement then). My GP said...vegetarianism isn't for you kid.
When I was first recovering and saw a dietician. She looked though the trational iron rich stuff and said...look, you just have to eat red meat, not daily, maybe not even every week, but probbably, but its beneficial for you, eat it.
And that's what I do, I eat high welfare red meat, not in whole portions, .....e.g. I use meat in stews and use more veg than meat.
Now of course, I find lamb is something I find quite 'safe' so I'm eating lamb at least once a fortnight.
Last night I had soup which was veg with the left over of bacon joint for the weekend, I'd say one portion of meat made four portions of soup.., so, meat, but not MEAT.
( and yes, I shouldn't have eaten it, sick as a dog this morning, sick.as.a. Dog. Almost as soon as I finished and still now0 -

I really don't think "gourmet" and "hot dog" go together personally. Surely it is a contradiction in terms.
I eat the quorn mince in bolognese, or as shepherds/cottage pies. I'll have the occasional sausage or bacon, but not very frequently. I don't really eat pork, and lamb or beef are never eaten. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
What's supposed to be bad for you about red meat? If it's reasonably lean and you're getting plenty of fruit/veg as well?To give you some info on me, I am from Outer Herts, Jewish great grandparents, love mushrooms, not a scientist but it is one of my interests, of the lower socio economic status, divorced and a cat owner.
Oh and I have 3 sons who drive me up the wall at times!lostinrates wrote: »Its funny how we describe ourselves. I would definitely have included your boys in a description of you, but the income thing ? Doesn't define you at all. I think of books and speedway.
So would I have included Sue's boys. And although I do feel that managing magnificently in what used to be called "reduced circumstances" is part of how I think of her, I would never describe her as "lower socio economic status".
How would you describe me, lir? How's this?
I eat most things including red meat. I can tolerate little mushrooms but detest the big black stinking ones. I live in outer Herts, have no Jewish connections but 2 science degrees and love spreadsheets. I'm widowed (technically) with two kids aged 13 and 10, and love dogs, although currently only have a hamster belonging to DD (avatar-dog sadly deceased).Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Quorn is the one thing that makes me think the mushroom despisers are right. :rotfl:
It tastes like between the toes of unwashed feet yerck.I love the taste of veg, and shepherdess pie with no quorn is scumptious, veg, red lentils, mushrooms
, but quorn is really only ok when its taste is concealed....then there is the texture of it as mince.......( I seem to remember its more plausible texturally as a chicken substitute ?)
I don't think gourmet and anything are a contradiction on terms....its about prep and produce. I mean, people who only ate processed cheese probably could not fathom real gourmet cheddar, the difference between big standard Mozzerella and a beautiful one, or what ever.
Quorn anything would struggle to be gourmet in my book though.....the produce is just wrong.:rotfl:0 -

Oh no.....now I feel I've overstepped a line again?!
Um, amazing mother, and I'd definitely put Christian in there, but probably to your horror and but not one of the judgemental everyone else should rot types,. I'd also comment on your amazing people skills and ability to see things from other people's perspective.
