I'm not sure whether it's such a bad thing to shout. I suspect it's a lot more therapeutic for the shouter than the shoutee, though, so it needs to be both ways. I don't have a problem with chucking saucepans about, as long as it's 'about' and not 'at somebody'. It's far better to argue than bottle it up.
When DW really wants to make her point, she doesn't say anything. Just broods. She's had me appeasing her for days on end that way.
Appeasement worked about as well for me in my marriage as it did for Neville Chamberlain.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Actually, in update, I just hate having parents.
Right, off to eye clinic. I also hate having ophthalmic consultant.
Just as well I like other aspects of my life, eh? It all balances out.0 -

I don't like either shouting or being shouted at. But neither OH nor I has a problem in saying we have a problem. Then you can sort it out and move on, I reckon....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
It's half-term, I'm not in court today, so Isaac and I are off to the Tower of London. When we went in May or June, I bought a year-long ticket, so we're off to get my (huge sum of) money's worth. Have fun, peeps!...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

I am on hold with First Utility. Every month I try to get them to switch my DD to my Santandr account to get the cashback. Every month they say they've done it, and then it doesn't actually happen. It's been 6 months now. The first time I got to the front of the queue, the woman I spoke to got a few words into her opening sentence and the phone got cut off. I queued again. This time I got a man who told me that there's a problem with DD's on the old system, or something - he wasn't very audible - but I did gather than only head office can sort out this problem for me. I am now on hold again, this time for head office, I hope.
Edit: Finally got through. Yet again, spoke to somebody who assured me that this time it really would work. Hmm. However, he also said I don't need to pay this month's bill - they will roll it over to next month, which is no bad thing because I've just had to pay the builder for removing the garden, which was quite expensive. Furthermore, he said he'd flagged it as a problematic account so the finance team will check it actually happens rather than leaving the DD to fail again without anybody noticing.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Have you checked that FirstUtility are one of the utilities that qualify for 1-2-3? I wondered why I wasn't getting cashback on my gas and then discovered that daligas are not one of their named companies. I half wondered whether I should start factoring in the 2% (as well as any cashback) when looking at switching options each time but decided life is too short. I bet Pioneer Energy (who have already renamed themselves to GreenStar in the 4 weeks it has taken to do the switch to them) are not on the list.
Edit: It appears you may have just wasted several hours of your life

Thanks both of you. Calls were free, so no problem about that. Nuisance about the cashback, but never mind. It was still worth switching to the 123 account for the cashback on the other things and the interest. Strangely, the bloke at First Utility seemed to think it would qualify for the 123 cashback when I was making conversation with him about it.
Now need to get round to applying for a 123 credit card to get cashback on petrol and supermarkets.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? It is possible the Santander page on included suppliers is out of date - I did send Santander a 'contact us' about Daligas but they replied that I would have to phone up and I couldn't be bothered.
I had the 1-2-3 credit card for a bit but closed it before the end of the first year as it is only free to 1-2-3 current account holders for 12 months then £24 pa and there are better cashback credit card options out there.I think....0 -
Sorry, I've been occupied here.
Very glad I traveled yesterday rather than today.
Storm here has been uneventful, some roads flooded but not in this part and a few twigs off trees. Bit of a storm in a teacup. Whereas at home, trees have blocked roads, no trains all day. A friend needed to travel on the east coast line, got a taxi from home to Kings X and sat on the 7.35am train waiting for it to depart until 15.35 - he eventually got to his destination at 8.30pm!
I feel for your friend - some of mine ended up hiring a car to take them back up north from London when they saw the ECML wasn't working at all.
I travelled back up late morning today. The ECML website said all trains from Kings Cross would be delayed by up to 30 minutes by the time they reached Stevenage (which is 22 mins out of London). The 4-train departure board at Stv seemed to support this when I arrived there with my parents (who'd driven me to the station from their home).
Luckily I checked with a member of staff in the waiting area, and my particular train had no delays to it, so I caught it with only a couple of minutes to spare! It remained on time, and the Quiet coach was QUIET for once :T
So sad to hear about the fatalities in the storm.
