Spirit you know about this stuff so I'm sure you've got this covered. However if you are in a final salary scheme, the scheme hit from being part time can be extremely punitive. My only advice is to take advice if that could affect you. I know a few women who have come a cropper going part time towards the end of their career.

Thanks, this is covered though. It works on reckonable service so part time years are proportionate to a full time salary. e.g. 5 years of 30 hours part time /37.5 hours fulltime accrues 4 years of reckonable service at the fulltime salary/Pension.

For the first time in my adult life I want to spend more time with my family and friends than I spend in the office. I have never said or felt that before.

That's a very compelling argument for change.

Definitely not to be underestimated in terms of importance.
This sounds like a great decision, Spirit. I'm sure you'll manage to find what pattern works best for you. And if there is flexibility to work it out even better.

I didn't think that I had any giddy teenager left, but apparently there is, it just needed re-awakening (by someone at a very safe distance and safely spoken for).

Shouldn't need any tips - it's not a date (I also included another female colleague who works at the same site to make sure it definitely didn't look like one, not that I think it would have even crossed his mind, only mine - she has yet to reply re meeting up). Might need to make sure I have a new outfit though (I wore all my normal work ones the week we sat next to each other). Also using it as an incentive to get back on the weight loss too (too easy to find excuses otherwise).

FC - I have to say that you did mention Mr FCs pecs a lot last week ;) I'm pretty sure there is giddiness look for it :D

    Hormones and spots <shudders> .

If you are feeling teenagerish you may need new clothes inside and out:o

I feel old and the need to say things like "now you mind yourself young lady".

It does not make business sense either.

It is surely better business sense to allow you to wind down a little than to keep on pushing to work f-t until you really can't manage it any longer?

Good. I remember when I first started teaching part time I had it explained to me that the TPS works in the way you describe, and I remember thinking at the time that although I hadn't previously realised it worked like that, I could immediately see that that was the fairest way of doing it.

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I've never managed to get rid of the spots; that the hormones are still active is pleasant news.

Oh to be young or a lady :D

And yet again, I should stress, there is zero danger of anything more exciting than MY teenage giddiness. A few nice comments, but nothing more than someone who is just a thoroughly nice person with no brain-to-mouth filter (/ sense of social awkwardness). Just enough to make me feel alive (and cling on to the feeling). I rarely need another reason to go out for a drink.

I am planning on sourcing a new outfiit - as mentioned, already seen my full repertoire of work outfits ;)

It is a road to Damascus experience.

Having told my team, and told NP..I am committed. I have dithered for months. OH has wanted this for a few years.

Not mentioned it to my daughter yet as I want to have works agreement before I tell more folk in RL.

My friend worked in a company that was going to have to offload a pile of staff and then they all agreed to workshare. They all still made a comfortable living and had more family time. Should be the rule when anywhere downsizes that that's the best way to keep everyone's experience and skills on tap.

Always felt that people should retire in fractional stages, going from five days down a day every year or so, to give time to pass on experience and expertise.

I'd push to stay as a block of three days in a row I think. Days with a partial commitment would tend to expand and become full work days if you're not careful. ;)

If I hadn't been feeling slightly giddy, I might have been feeling more than a little jealous and nauseous :D

No sympathy from me.....you were offered first refusal on my 'if she is still available call xxx list' .....:rotfl:

Please be careful of your feelings. I'm being sensible for once and keeping my opinions to myself, but take care sweets.

Pills definitely taken a meant to be today, but I have reached tha state if nervous energy that makes sleep hard. Just had nice stroll with dogs ( beautiful outside tonight) and winding down towards mediating myself into sleep.

Tomorrow maybe I'll be less grumpy. :o:D
