    I went with the suggestion

    'Lostinrates advisor' Foundinrates.

(Its not a programme about me,:rotfl: but I'm trying to say how I suggested the credit should read, based on nice people previous suggestions. That the role was an advisor specific about the person. Does that make sense? Dunno, we'll see what the producer says I guess. ( for is doing the work for the credit and no dough, so .....). (There is no research involved, just stuff he already knows.....)

Depends how much it costs, what it actually covers and whether it is transferrable if you sell the car within the warranty period I suppose.

Lots of warranties have nasty small print which requires you to submit the car to an annual check at the dealership so if you forget to do this one year then your warranty gets binned. The also tend to have significant exclusions and mileage limits.

One presumes that they wouldn't offer to sell you an optional extended warranty unless they were making money out of it (unlike the warranty you get on purchase of a new car which is more of a tool to get you to buy their brand rather than someone else's).

Car is 3 year old and I can take an extended warranty before the 3 yrs is up. This would extend the existing coverage so would offer better coverage than a new scheme. The rate they are quoting is cheaper than warranty direct and auto warranty for 1 year, though more for 2 and 3 years. If I wanted to take the cover after the 3 yrs is up it would cost 30% more and provide less cover.

Hello everyone :) I've been reading but not had too much of a chance to post so you've had a bit of a rest from me!

Handed back the key to my lodgings yesterday, so I'm officially all in here now (well, apart from the heap of stuff at my parents') :)
Wondering how I'm going to make my salary stretch to twice it's size this month (big 1st mortgage payment and a rather large credit card bill, most of which is work expenses but I wasn't very quick at claiming back...), but otherwise all is going ok I think.

Pushed myself properly out of my comfort zone today. Met someone rather nice a few weeks ago through work - he's a lovely person as well as pretty lovely to look at :o Anyhow, whilst nothing is going to happen (in no particular order he lives at other end of the country, has a gf, and I don't think he'd be interested even if he was single) he's put a smile on my face ever since I spent most of a week sat next to him (not by my design, but I couldn't have planned it better!). I'm due up to his part of the country towards the end of the year, so I finally plucked up the courage this morning to say I'd be around if he fancied meeting up one evening He replied back pretty quickly to say he'd love to :)

I feel a bit like a giddy teenager :rotfl: Can't stress enough, nothing exciting is going to happen (would require at the very least 1. no gf and 2. reciprocated feelings ). But its soooo long since anyone caught my eye. I figured that I need to at least practice pushing through the discomfort if I'm ever going to try and meet anyone. And I am hoping that I've made a new friend at the very least.
    :)
    :)

    Significant decisions being made here.

OH and I have made the decision that I will reduce my work commitments. I want to move to working 3 days a week from January. Not working condensed hours or long days about 24 hours a week.

Yesterday I discussed it with the four senior managers who report directly to me, so that makes it "real", and they will help me put a plan together on how my workload could change or be covered in another way.

My GP thinks this a good idea and I am seeing occupational health to get their support.

Then I will put it to my director.

On the financial side there is a reduced salary, reduced pension and reduced life cover.

We will need to budget more wisely and I will need to make sure I do not work full time but get paid part-time.

The working pattern is undecided, my OH wants me to have 4 days off in a row, I want to work Mondays as there is a key communication meeting then. One of my team has alos suggested I work three days in a block as they believe that if I break the week up i some way I will do emails, take calls and think work on the 'off days'.

    NP thoughts welcome.

Big decision, but sounds like a good one.

I'd go for working the days in a block - agree with the comment that it will be more difficult for everyone (but esp you) to keep the day off separate and as a proper day off.

@ Nikkster - my heart is broken.

@ Spirit - I'd do Mon-Wed. You'll soon lose touch with what's going on if you miss the strategy meeting. It'd be too distracting for me to do a day on and a day off but that's just me.

You seem well aware of the main dangers: being marginalised and being expected to do the same amount of work for less pay.

Do people buy extended car warranties?

We we got our first multipla (28 months old 20k) we got a 4 year max cover warranty (I think warranty direct) for a bargain 480...but then had one minor issue in the 4 years so only claimed back 125 (no problem with the claim). Since then we have had various other multiplas but the same policy has been quoted at 480 per year so we have never taken it out...and all the other cars have of course been rubbish and cost a fortune.

Gets my vote, I'd much sooner have quality of life and live on less - if I reach mortgage free one of the things I will do is work less. Working 3 days together should make it easier not to work outside those days, you need to have an agreement that you will not be available any other time - could you do a job share? I work with a colleague who does 2 days a week in the office then two half days at home and she often emails at all sorts of strange hours so is clearly thinking about the job more hours than she is paid for even if she doesn't work more.
    I think....

    :rotfl:

No need for anyone to rush out hat buying on my behalf :D This is definitely firmly in the realm of a one-way crush rather than anything more substantial.

It feels great to remember that I do have a heart as well as a brain though :)

And I'm a teeny weeny bit proud of myself for actually suggesting a social engagement rather than my default of just keeping quiet and waiting for someone else to do so (or not as e.g. in this case no-one would know that I was in the area).

Totally outside my area of knowledge

Dh's employers brought in 60% and80 % work contracts, but I'm not sure what uptake has been and how you work out a percentage 'always on call' in reality.....I mean what if their clients want them in the middle of he night/ weekend? Does it shift more on to those on normal contracts? I dunno?

    Anyway not relevant to spirit.

Spirit though I agree with the practicality I guess the important question is when do you get tired?

I'd find three days on the trot impossible but might be able to consider m, t and thurs, with w and F off( oh, that looks bad). You know your energy best. You might find four days off together leaves you feeling...'out of the loop ' and that a day you can float between a full day or two split ones as suits your schedule / health mightvfitbbetter if you are not job sharing?
