Do people buy extended car warranties?
Depends how much it costs, what it actually covers and whether it is transferrable if you sell the car within the warranty period I suppose.
Lots of warranties have nasty small print which requires you to submit the car to an annual check at the dealership so if you forget to do this one year then your warranty gets binned. The also tend to have significant exclusions and mileage limits.
One presumes that they wouldn't offer to sell you an optional extended warranty unless they were making money out of it (unlike the warranty you get on purchase of a new car which is more of a tool to get you to buy their brand rather than someone else's).0 -

Do any of the NP know how funding works when kids who live in one county go to school in a neighbouring county? I don't need to know for myself, but it's come up in conversations in the playground at my kids' school.
Funding goes with the student. So if someone goes to school in a neighbouring LEA, the funding that the home county would have expected goes to the school or LEA that educates the student. For this reason LEAs are keen to keep children within area. Add to that that a school cannot discriminate to give priority to those from their own area just because of county boundaries (Greenwich ruling), though it is allowed catchment areas and catchment schools. It also raises school transport issues, if the nearest school is across a boundary that shouldn't cause a problem in providing transport (or costs) in accordance with the normal rules.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
