Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -
Evening Hamish. How are things in Aberdeen?
Things are good.:)
Just back from a few weeks away on holiday.
Think I may now need to take another holiday to recover from my holiday.
Anything interesting happen with the NP while I was gone?“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

They are fun, when they're not on fire.
I don't like classical music much. I'm from a musical family but as regards inheriting any talent, well let's just say I'd be great at the UN because if I hummed the national anthem people from every country would stand up.;)
I had the good fortune to grow up in a time when music was interesting. It's so pleasant to see so many branches of music continuing and evolving. But I'm not into poetry so no rap for me.
I don't think my parents own a single piece of music written after about 1910, apart from one Simon & Garfunkel tape for which they blame each other.
My mother's a classical singer, mostly early (pre 1750) stuff, and my Dad's also very much into the same sort of music. My great-grandmother played the piano and organ in cinemas for silent films, which must have been great fun....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

You mean "after" in that first sentence, don't you?Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Yup - corrected to make sense....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -

I only just discovered the only recording I have ever found of The Boxer by Paul Simon with the missing verse included (not on any album AFAIK).
The only classical music I ever liked was on a strange album of Bach music in the 70s by Wendy (then Walter) Carlos. Some of her music that fascinated me is on the Classitronic site. In particular I'd recommend the track labelled

I can see why Carl Sagan said we should never broadcast Bach to outer space as it would be seen as "bragging".
Oh and Mussorgsky via a prog-rock band called ELP back in the day.
Otherwise it mostly kind of leaves me cold. Wish it didn't, but there it is.

Hey good for you!
I feel like a spare part this evening. DH has gone out by himself for the first time since his op. As every waking hour I've been home he's been here since he was released in June, this feels very strange and I feel extremely protective. I'm expecting something along the lines of "mum, stop texting me!" soon...
Hopefully he will be well enough to go back to work in a few weeks. Considering how bad things were at the time of the op, this is very good news. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I like lightweight classical music. One of my favourite pieces is Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto. Absolutely beautiful. And Aquarium by Saint-Saens from the Carnival of the Animals is stunning. That surely can't leave anyone cold.
The former was adapted by Eric Carmen for his hit "All By Myself". Being a child of the seventies like me, I bet you remember that one. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Bach's Double Violin Concerto in D minor is one of my favourite pieces of music, it's utterly sublime. I also love Pacabel's Canon, do you know it?vivatifosi wrote: »Hopefully he will be well enough to go back to work in a few weeks. Fantastic news! I'm not surprised you feel like a mother hen with one chick, though, but it's a great step....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0
